Underwriting Manager – Property & Cyber

Lead the Property and Cyber underwriting functions across Europe, guiding a multidisciplinary team in establishing and expanding broker networks, structuring and pricing insurance products, and integrating innovative data and technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and expand broker network in France and Europe, coordinating commercial interactions and participating in forums and events.
• Discuss business opportunities with brokers to understand client needs and improve product offering, and supervise team’s interactions with broker partners.
• Conduct structure work, risk analysis and issue insurance proposals for public sector and corporate clients, supervising proposals under given underwriting authorities.
• Be responsible for technical documentation, underwriting authorities and governance audit trail, ensuring contracts meet guidelines.
• Participate in the development of Descartes’ technological platform to differentiate from competitors.
• Lead bespoke growth projects, such as partnerships with specialized distribution networks to gain market share on particular segments or geographies.
• Manage a team of Property and Cyber underwriters, supporting autonomy, rigor and technical decision‑making.

About You

Experience & Qualifications

• Graduated from an engineering or actuarial school; specialization in data science, computer science, applied mathematics or related is a plus.
• Approximately 10 years of significant professional experience, including 5+ years in P&C underwriting or a closely related field in France or abroad.
• Proven track record in leading projects involving a variety of stakeholders and managing a small team.

Skills

• Strong basic notions of Python (e.g., pandas, scikit‑learn).
• Proficiency in statistics, probabilities, applied mathematics and machine learning methods is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Fluency in French and English is required.
• Good command of another European language is strongly valued.
