Underwriting Governance, International Markets

Sompo Insurance is seeking an Underwriting Governance, International Markets specialist in its Underwriting team.

Location: United Kingdom, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg. The role can be based in any of these.

Responsibilities

• Support the IM CUO Office by assisting the CUO and Head of Strategy with execution of responsibilities and objectives.
• Contribute to development and implementation of initiatives enhancing underwriting governance and operational efficiency across international markets.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders such as Strategic Partner IM, Head of Underwriting Analytics and Pricing, and regional CUOs to align efforts and achieve shared objectives.
• Support the management, maintenance, and enhancement of the Underwriting Governance Framework, ensuring consistent application of principles and standards across all international markets.
• Facilitate streamlined processes and provide oversight for Management-initiated Audits (MIA), ensuring findings are addressed and integrated into governance improvements.
• Assist with the coordination and management of underwriting authority protocols, including referral and escalation processes, issuance of Letters of Authority, facultative reinsurance protocols, and peer‑review procedures.
• Support the governance of delegated authorities, establishing and maintaining authority structures and coordinating monitoring activities with local resources.
• Support Product Communities by fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and best‑practice dissemination across markets.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of underwriting governance frameworks and principles.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and regions with a global mindset.
• Excellent organizational and coordination skills for managing complex processes and projects.
• Analytical mindset with ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in underwriting, governance, or strategy roles within the insurance industry.
