We are currently looking for a Technology R&D Support Engineer to join our service team and work at ESA HQ in Paris, France. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of innovative technologies at the heart of Europe’s space programme.
In this role, you will support ESA’s technology and innovation activities, working with experts across the Agency to manage ideas, improve processes, and develop automation and reporting solutions that help bring new concepts to life.
About the client and location
The European Space Agency’s (ESA) headquarters are based in Paris, France. It is from here that all major political and administrative decisions are made with regard to ESA’s programmes, budgets and current and future plans.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Supporting and managing OSIP campaigns and channels, engaging with idea authors, coordinating evaluations, and driving continuous improvements.
- Providing space systems engineering support for the planning, execution, and follow-up of ESA R&D activities.
- Monitoring programme performance, capture lessons learned, and help identify promising activities for further development within ESA programmes.
- Developing and enhancing automation, reporting, and workflow solutions, including Power BI analytics and data integration from multiple sources.
- Contributing to stakeholder communication through web tools, training materials, documentation, and dissemination activities.
Skills and Experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Master’s degree in a relevant space science or engineering discipline with at least 4 years of professional experience.
- Strong background in space systems engineering, combined with programming and automation skills (e.g. Python) and an interest in innovation activities.
- Knowledge of web applications, automation tools, and scripting languages such as Python.
- Interest in open innovation, emerging technologies, and continuous learning.
- Proactive, curious, and adaptable, with a passion for exploring new ideas and solutions.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an international and multicultural environment.
- Strong communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and a solution-oriented approach.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Knowledge of Space Systems Engineering and the European space technology R&D landscape.
- Experience with OSIP, either as an idea author or in a campaign/channel management role.
