As part of the development of a vessel portfolio operated by a major international maritime player, responsible for the operation and technical performance of a fleet of specialised units, we are seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to join the onshore technical team.
Reporting to the Technical Department, you will act as the operational and technical reference for a portfolio of vessels.
Your mission will be to ensure their operational availability, technical performance, and regulatory compliance.
Description
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Technical and budget management
Monitoring maintenance costs, participating in the annual budget preparation, and performing monthly cost control in coordination with support functions (Business Control, Fleet Management).
- Fleet maintenance management
Supervising preventive and corrective maintenance of vessels, ensuring compliance with internal technical standards and company maintenance procedures.
- Compliance and inspections
Organising and leading periodic technical inspections of vessels.
Ensuring compliance with international regulations (ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, STCW) as well as flag state and classification society requirements.
- HSE & continuous improvement
Actively contributing to the development of the fleet's HSE culture.
Participating in incident investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Management and coordination
Line management of onboard Chief Engineers and coordination with internal and external stakeholders involved in technical vessel operations.
- Operational follow-up
Conducting regular vessel visits, assessing technical condition, and providing structured reporting to management on fleet performance and technical needs.
Core competencies
- In-depth knowledge of maritime regulations and standards: ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, STCW
- Strong command of CMMS
- Ability to analyse technical issues, conduct investigations, and manage technical projects
- Strong functional coordination and project management skills
- Proven leadership, prioritisation skills, rigor, and strong communication and training abilities
- Fluent written and spoken English
Qualifications & Experience
- Chief Engineer Certificate or equivalent maritime qualification
- Proven managerial experience onboard vessels or within a shipping company
- Previous experience in technical vessel management, maintenance supervision, or fleet support roles
- Experience in an international maritime environment is highly desirable
