Job Summary
The Technical Specialist will serve as the technical expert in the commercial development of new accounts or the development of new opportunities with established accounts in the energy storage and energy & power industries. The role protects the CSA Group marks as the premier mark by ensuring current CSA Group customer satisfaction, while promoting the use of CSA Group for new or expanded services.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical guidance and mentoring for Energy Storage and Energy & Power GBUs.
- Mentors junior certifiers and lab staff as required.
- Performs certification projects and project reviews (CB, Full & Category) to maintain technical qualifications.
- Actively seeks value‑added opportunities that increase customer interest and promote the use of new services for CSA Group, collaborating with New Account Managers and contacting inactive or former customers to regain work.
- Communicates with Operations staff as required during the sales process.
- Responds promptly to all technical sales inquiries, visits clients as necessary, and prioritizes work assignments and follow‑up responses to client inquiries and proposals in coordination with the commercial team.
- Establishes and maintains account relationships to meet personal sales targets, emphasizing expanded use of CSA Group services.
- Prepares written pricing proposals for services, working with the commercial team and technical operations staff as needed.
- Participates in associations and outside organizations deemed appropriate by the commercial business unit leader and maintains a list of contacts to share with the team.
- Manages client relationships by determining client needs and expectations, and relays necessary information to operations to maintain customer satisfaction.
- Represents CSA Group at trade shows, exhibits, conferences and client presentations, identifying and communicating business opportunities and competitive trends.
- Maintains accurate and complete client files, inputting new/existing client information into the sales database, and provides periodic written reports on calls, customer contacts, proposals, quotes, expenses, travel and trade‑show activities.
- Evaluates industry reports, territory databases, and external competitive information to develop territory analysis and provide input to managers.
- Works cooperatively with others, as lead or support, on calls, trade shows and presentations, and maintains positive contacts within the organization to exchange, explain and interpret information or ideas.
- Participates in CSA Group Technical Network and Technical Panel as required, supporting international standards development and technical committees, authoring technical papers, etc.
- Prepares project quotations for cost and time, classifies products by use, environment and function, determines applicable requirements & testing, and selects testing methods and locations suited to customer needs.
- Explains different product certification programs available to clients and the requirements for control of production.
- Communicates test rationale and outcomes to customers.
- Develops comprehensive knowledge of national and international standards through research and participates in standards development work.
- Shares knowledge with other staff and CSA Group through written or verbal communication and training events.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with registration as a Professional Engineer highly valued, with six or more years of experience in energy storage & power industry; or a three‑year College Diploma in a relevant technological discipline, with six or more years of work experience in a similar industry.

- Extensive knowledge of standards relating to energy storage and energy & power equipment.
- Knowledge of CSA Group, UL and IEC standards pertaining to energy storage and energy & power; variety of test procedures.
