Vallourec is looking for a Technical Sales Engineer (Oil & gas) to join the group in Aulnoye-Aymeries
Context of this job description
The OCTG Accessories Technical Sales role supports the growth of the Europe, Africa & North Sea Accessories business by translating customer technical requirements into practical, optimized solutions aligned with Vallourec and licensee capabilities.
The role provides first‑line technical support and assists the mills through specification reviews, feasibility assessments, and guidance on accessory design to ensure industrial compatibility.
Beyond technical expertise, the role contributes to the commercial strategy, leveraging product knowledge to identify opportunities, shape offers, and reinforce Vallourec’s value proposition.
It also coordinates with VAM® Licensees to secure product consistency, API/ISO compliance, and alignment with operator expectations across the region.
Mission and responsibilities for this position
- Translate customer needs into feasible technical solutions
- Analyze customer specifications and operational requirements
- Convert technical requests into industrially viable solutions aligned with plant capabilities and licensee capacities
- Support feasibility assessments (dimensions, tolerances, threading, metallurgy, coatings)
- Ensure proposed solutions respect VAM® design rules and qualification requirements
- Support commercial strategy and opportunity development
- Identify new business opportunities within customer scopes and drilling/workover programs
- Contribute to offer positioning by combining technical relevance with commercial competitiveness
- Provide technical insights during tender preparation, customer meetings, and bid reviews
- Help Sales teams articulate the added value of Vallourec Accessories and Services
- Act as the Interface between market and manufacturing
- Communicate customer expectations, constraints, and priorities to the plant and licensees
- Ensure alignment on manufacturability, lead times, capacities, and tooling availability
- Coordinate with engineering, methods, and production teams when adaptations are required
- Follow up on technical clarifications, non‑standard requests, and qualification needs
- Provide Technical Support to Licensees Across EA‑NS
- Ensure product consistency and compliance with API/ISO standards
- Clarify specifications, tolerances, and machining rules
- Support licensees in interpreting VAM® drawings, procedures, and guidelines
- Assist with technical deviations, non‑conformities, and customer queries
- Promote and Support Vallourec Value‑Added Services
- Position services such as make‑up supervision, running support, thread inspection, coatings, and repair solutions
- Identify service add‑ons linked to accessory purchases (pups, crossovers, special parts)
- Educate customers and Sales teams on the operational benefits of Vallourec services
- Contribute to Continuous Improvement and Product Consistency
- Gather customer feedback and field experience to help improve products and manufacturing
- Report recurring issues or market trends that could impact design or industrial planning
- Participate in updating procedures, technical guidelines, and documentation
Background expected
- 6 to 10 years of experience in this position and at least 4 years in OCTG, drilling equipment, or oilfield services (accessories, threading, or premium connections preferred)
- You hold a Master degree in Business school or Engineering School
