Turner Lovell is supporting an international energy technology organisation delivering complex power-system and grid-infrastructure projects for utility customers worldwide.
To support the continued growth of its engineering activities in France, our client is looking for a Technical Lead - Electrical Systems with extensive experience in transmission, substations and high-voltage electrical systems.
This is a senior technical leadership position with responsibility for the overall electrical system design and coordination of complex grid projects. You will act as the principal technical point of contact throughout the project lifecycle, from basic design and detailed engineering through testing, commissioning and project close-out.
The Role
You will lead the definition and validation of the electrical system architecture, ensuring the correct integration of transformers, high-voltage equipment, protection systems, control systems and plant auxiliaries.
Working across multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will coordinate technical interfaces, review key engineering deliverables and lead discussions with customers, consultants and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical systems engineering activities for complex transmission and grid-infrastructure projects.
- Define, review and validate the overall electrical system architecture.
- Act as the technical authority for electrical-system design and integration.
- Coordinate interfaces between power transformers, HTB equipment, switching systems, protection and control systems, automation and auxiliary services.
- Ensure the correct integration of HV, MV and LV electrical systems.
- Review and approve electrical studies, calculation reports, technical specifications and design documentation.
- Assess load-flow, short-circuit, protection-coordination and dynamic-stability studies.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, grid codes and applicable international standards.
- Coordinate closely with Control, Automation and Protection engineering teams.
- Lead technical reviews with customers, consultants, suppliers and project partners.
- Support procurement activities, equipment selection and supplier technical clarifications.
- Provide technical support during factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing.
- Support commissioning, system validation and performance-testing activities.
- Identify technical and interface risks and drive issues through to resolution.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering standards and best practices.
The Ideal Candidate
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 15 years of experience in transmission, substations, power generation or major electrical-infrastructure projects.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a senior, lead or principal engineering role.
- Strong experience in electrical-system architecture and multidisciplinary technical coordination.
- In-depth knowledge of HV, MV and LV power systems.
- Strong technical understanding of power transformers and substation equipment.
- Experience with high-voltage switching equipment and associated electrical interfaces.
- Strong knowledge of protection, control and automation systems.
- Understanding of grid-connection requirements and grid-code compliance.
- Experience reviewing power-system studies, including load flow, short circuit and dynamic stability.
- Previous experience delivering EPC projects within the energy or utility sector.
- Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and utility standards.
- Proven experience leading customer-facing technical discussions.
- Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving capabilities.
- Professional fluency in English; French language skills would be advantageous.
- Experience working on international utility projects would be beneficial.
