About Murena

Murena SAS builds privacy-respecting mobile and cloud products: /e/OS, a de-Googled Android OS, and Murena Workspace, a cloud suite based on Nextcloud. We are a fully remote, multicultural team and most of our work is open source.

About this role

You will provide cross-functional technical leadership over our web products: development (Murena Workspace and the other /e/OS backends), infrastructure and security. You will manage two squads: one focused on web development, the other on system administration and infrastructure. Your goal is to improve product quality, service reliability and security, and to prepare our stack for a growing user load. You will also help the team get up to speed with AI-assisted development tooling.

Responsibilities

• Manage two squads: a web development squad and a sysadmin / infrastructure squad
• Define and maintain the technical direction of the web products, across development and infrastructure
• Drive software architecture and scalability decisions as the user base grows
• Review and improve application and infrastructure security
• Mentor and upskill engineers, including on AI-assisted development tools
• Work with the product and infrastructure teams to prioritize technical work

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership of a team or a cross-team scope
• Solid experience in both application development and infrastructure (deployment, scaling, monitoring)
• Strong knowledge of application and infrastructure security practices
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI preferred)
• Experience managing or leading a team of engineers, ideally covering both development and sysadmin / infrastructure profiles
• Experience mentoring other engineers
• Fluent English, written and spoken (mandatory)
• Experience working in a remote team

Nice to have

• Experience with PHP-based or other open-source web applications (e.g. Nextcloud)
• Experience introducing AI tooling into an engineering team
• Contributions to open-source projects

Team

You will lead two squads: the web development squad and the sysadmin / infrastructure squad. You will also work with the product owners of Murena Workspace. We work remotely and asynchronously.

• Getting to know each other (HR). If your profile looks like a good match, we invite you to a first chat within a week of your application.
• Meeting the technical team. If it goes well, you talk with the people you would work with, the week after.
• Meeting our CEO. If you are selected, a final conversation with our CEO.
• Making you an offer. If everyone is aligned, we send you an offer.
