Tech Lead - Rust

An established international technology organisation is hiring a hands‑on Rust Technical Lead to support the development of a new software programme.

You will remain close to the code while helping shape software architecture, REST API design, system integration and engineering standards across the wider team. This is technical leadership rather than a pure people‑management role.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop production software using Rust
• Shape software architecture and system‑integration decisions
• Design secure and maintainable REST APIs
• Review code, designs and technical approaches
• Diagnose complex software and performance issues
• Guide engineers and contribute to technical standards
• Evaluate technologies and propose practical improvements
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to stakeholders

What we are looking for

• Good understanding of the Rust ecosystem, strengths and trade‑offs
• Production REST API design and development experience
• Software architecture and system‑integration experience
• Recent hands‑on coding experience
• Strong knowledge of testing, code reviews and secure development
• Evidence of technical leadership, mentoring or engineering influence
• Strong communication and problem‑solving skills

Experience with C, C++ or Java would be useful, particularly within distributed, embedded, performance‑sensitive or complex backend environments.

The internal requirement is broader than simple coding and includes architecture, performance optimisation, troubleshooting, governance and coaching. The call also made clear that they want someone who can guide engineers, introduce ideas and communicate across teams rather than simply operate as a senior individual contributor.
