Management Activities
- Conduct performance and appraisal interviews.
- Facilitate team meetings with direct reports.
- Ensure employee development, including training and knowledge sharing.
- Lead and coach the Engineering sub‑department, including contracted resources (approximately 8–15 employees).
- Maintain oversight of multiple projects, set priorities, and coordinate activities within the team.
- Provide support to the Director of Engineering in preparing reports and monitoring the development process and organizational planning, including expanding the IAI roadmap.
- Safeguard the quality and quantity of work within the Engineering sub‑department, ensuring activities are performed in accordance with guidelines and agreements.
Organization
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels within the Engineering department.
- Ensure uniformity and standardization of work processes.
- Define and determine outsourcing assignments, specifying what contracted resources are expected to deliver.
- Maintain oversight of Engineering resource planning and, where necessary, engage support from resources in other teams.
Technologies and System Design
- Translate developments into new applications, market applications, and/or system specifications.
- Advise on potential new technologies, material applications, and/or innovations to company systems and machines.
- Co‑determine the system architecture for newly developed systems and machines.
- Together with a multidisciplinary team (Software, Mechanics, and Electronics), translate required customer specifications into a conceptual design and functional specifications.
- Participate in and facilitate reviews to assess the functionality and quality of designs.
Primary Duties — Communication
- Communicate in both Dutch and English.
- Promote information exchange within a multidisciplinary team to ensure functionalities are translated into design information.
- Discuss project planning, progress, and results with the Director of Engineering and/or Project Managers.
- Communicate technical information and malfunctions with international customers.
- Prepare presentations, project plans, work instructions, and test documents.
- Discuss technical content, solutions, specifications, process knowledge, system development, and innovations with the Director of Engineering, Managing Director, Project Managers, Engineers, Operations, and international customers.
- Represent the Engineering team during meetings with Operations, Project Managers, and Team Leaders.
- Support Sales with regard to new technical applications and process knowledge.
- Prepare reports for the Director of Engineering.
Authorities
- Set priorities for the allocation and distribution of work within the team, including outsourcing tasks where necessary.
- Initiate and follow up on system and unit development, taking customer and functional specifications into account.
- Make decisions regarding the deployment of people and resources.
- Prepare, implement, and monitor procedures and regulations.
- Make investment decisions within approved departmental budgets.
- Analyze, interpret, and resolve problems within the Engineering sub‑department.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure the availability of appropriate resources within the team.
- Ensure the availability and TPD of developed units and machines, taking specifications into account.
- Keep standard machines and technology knowledge up to date and apply new technologies in the field of control software.
- Build a solid knowledge infrastructure by promoting active knowledge transfer within the Engineering department.
- Bearing responsibility for validation and test steps within the PCP process.
- Establish and manage departmental budgets.
- Realize adequate departmental planning and achieve project and departmental objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
- Leadership and people management skills.
- Experience in system design.
