About the role This role is dedicated to sourcing, researching, and engaging the best AI talent on a global scale. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive research into the frontier AI landscape, mapping out key organizations, research labs, startups, and open-source communities. Your primary goal is to proactively identify and build relationships with outstanding researchers, engineers, and technical talent before they actively seek new opportunities. You will work closely with the recruiting team to develop targeted sourcing strategies, ensuring ami can attract top-tier talent in a competitive market. This position requires a combination of strategic thinking, technical understanding, and proactive outreach to build a strong talent pipeline that supports ami's growth and innovation in AI.

What you'll do

  • Lead or support the entire recruiting process for critical AI roles, including Research Scientists, ML Engineers, and other technical positions, from initial sourcing through to offer and closing.
  • Manage inbound applications by screening candidates, assessing their fit, and guiding high-potential candidates through interview processes.
  • Develop and implement proactive sourcing strategies tailored to frontier AI roles, utilizing various platforms and research methods to identify passive candidates.
  • Create detailed talent maps of AI research labs, universities, startups, and open-source communities to understand the talent landscape and identify key individuals.
  • Generate actionable insights on competitor hiring trends, talent movement within the AI ecosystem, and emerging research areas to inform sourcing and hiring strategies.
  • Design and implement scalable sourcing systems and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of talent identification and engagement.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers and team leads to understand role requirements and develop targeted outreach campaigns.
  • Support operational aspects of recruiting, including scheduling interviews, managing applicant tracking systems, and coordinating communication with candidates.
  • Assist in building and maintaining a talent pipeline for current and future hiring needs, ensuring a steady flow of qualified candidates.
  • Provide a high-quality candidate experience by maintaining clear communication, timely updates, and professional engagement throughout the hiring process.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in AI research, industry trends, and talent sourcing techniques to continuously improve sourcing strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of ami's talent intelligence functions, helping to establish best practices for sourcing and research within the organization.
  • Work closely with the broader recruiting and HR teams to align sourcing efforts with company goals and hiring priorities.
  • Leverage research tools such as arXiv, GitHub, LinkedIn, Google Scholar, and Semantic Scholar to identify and assess potential candidates.
  • Maintain an active presence within the AI research community, attending conferences and engaging with researchers and engineers to build a network of potential candidates.
  • Keep detailed records of sourcing activities, candidate interactions, and insights to inform ongoing talent mapping and recruitment strategies.
  • Support the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring a smooth transition from candidate to team member.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of sourcing processes and tools to enhance overall recruitment efficiency and candidate quality.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in technical sourcing and recruiting, ideally within AI, machine learning, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting for roles such as Research Scientist, Research Engineer, ML Engineer, or similar technical positions.
  • Strong interest and familiarity with AI research, emerging technologies, and the technical communities involved.
  • Ability to interpret and understand technical research papers, follow leading researchers, and form informed opinions on significant work in AI.
  • Experience working with sourcing tools and platforms such as LinkedIn, GitHub, arXiv, and academic databases.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute proactive sourcing strategies for hard-to-find talent.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage passive candidates and build long-term relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing multiple searches simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguous situations, and establish structure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Resourceful, adaptable, and comfortable working within a startup or high-growth environment.
  • A curious and investigative mindset, with a passion for discovering new talent sources and research trends.
  • Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), preferably Ashby or similar modern platforms.
  • Ability to analyze industry trends and provide strategic insights to support hiring decisions.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in French is a plus but not required.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience working within a frontier AI research lab, prominent research organization, or top technology company.
  • An existing network within the global AI research community, including researchers, engineers, and industry professionals.
  • Experience recruiting across multiple international locations, understanding different labor markets and cultural nuances.
  • Practical experience with recruiting operations, including managing ATS platforms like Ashby and other HR tools.
  • Familiarity with major AI conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, and their communities.
  • Experience in building or scaling a talent intelligence or sourcing function from scratch.
  • Strong sourcing skills across various platforms, including arXiv, GitHub, LinkedIn, and academic databases.
  • Knowledge of the latest trends in AI research and talent acquisition strategies.

Practical notes

This role is based at our Paris office and requires onsite presence four days per week, with one day flexible for remote work.
