System Engineer

GTS Space is working with a company who are changing how satellite missions reach orbit through shared payload hosting, allowing organisations to fly sensors and experiments without building their own satellite or space segment. The technical stack combines proprietary hardware with cloud-inspired software to deliver a true plug-and-play effect, and the team are now scaling their operations function as the institutional mission pipeline grows.

They are hiring a Systems Engineer to join the Operations team, working closely with the Head of Operations, the Engineering team and the Project Managers. The focus of the role is owning documentation and requirements across the company's missions, with particular weight given to institutional programmes.

The role

  • Own and structure system requirements across the company's missions, ensuring consistency, traceability and alignment with customer and mission needs
  • Lead the production and maintenance of technical documentation, including system budgets, ICDs, SOWs, verification plans and review packages
  • Support the definition and consolidation of mission architectures, with a focus on clarity, robustness and documentation rather than detailed design work
  • Coordinate interfaces between engineering, project management and external partners, ensuring requirements are well understood and properly flowed down
  • Prepare and support key project reviews including MRR, PDR, CDR and acceptance, taking ownership of documentation readiness and review packages
  • Contribute to verification and validation activities, ensuring requirements are testable, verified and properly documented
  • Support institutional missions by aligning deliverables and documentation with ESA and agency expectations
  • Continuously improve the company's systems engineering practices, tools and documentation standards

What we are looking for

  • Formal STEM training with three to five years of systems engineering experience, ideally within the space industry
  • Strong experience in requirements definition, management and documentation within institutional programmes such as CNES or ESA is highly deseriable
  • Comfortable producing clear, structured technical documentation and operating within review-driven environments such as PDR and CDR
  • Solid grasp of system-level constraints across mass, power, data and interfaces, even without sitting in a detailed design role
  • Experience with verification and validation processes is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with institutional standards such as ESA and ECSS is a plus
  • Fluent written and spoken French and English are both essential for this role

On the softer side, the team are looking for someone structured, rigorous and detail-oriented, with a genuine appetite for bringing clarity to complex systems. Strong written communication is central to the role, and the right person will care about producing high-quality documentation. Comfort working at the interface between teams and aligning different stakeholders is essential, alongside the autonomy and adaptability needed in a fast-moving environment. A real passion for space and a solid understanding of the wider space ecosystem will set the strongest candidates apart.

Candidates must hold citizenship of an EU or NATO country, excluding the USA or Turkey, in order to be considered.
