InvenSense technology can be found in Mobile, Wearables, IoT, Smart Home, Industrial, and Automotive products.
At InvenSense, we take pride and find satisfaction in doing our jobs well, and we value the companionship that comes from working with others who share our total commitment to our customers and one another. We are looking to hire a motivated and talented Engineer with experience in developing and automating test strategies for the optimization and validation of our mobile and embedded software to help us continue our impressive growth as a global market leader in MEMS SoC solutions, and to offer efficient and innovative algorithms to address the needs of our customers.
Mission
You will bring your technical expertise in the fields of software development, you will deliver innovative solutions to improve and automate our validation processes. Your attention to quality and detail will help you identify and propose enhancements to boost the performance of our algorithmic solutions (signal processing and artificial intelligence) for motion sensors, audio sensors, and ultrasonic distance measurement sensors.
Our projects will lead you to work across various domains, from Smartphones to the Internet of Things, including drones, robotics, wearables, earbuds and smart glasses.
Your software development skills, combined with your knowledge of signal processing and artificial intelligence as much as your technical leadership abilities, will be key assets in proposing and developing new validation strategies, defining the architectural vision for our global validation frameworks, helping us tackle upcoming challenges in the evolution of our sensor systems. You will collaborate within our team to support the development of validation tools and work closely with development engineers and algorithm specialists to design validation strategies and develop metrics for continuously assessing and improving the quality of our solutions.
You will be part of an international team spread across two sites: Grenoble – France and San Jose – California.
Interaction with Teams
- Frequent interactions with the extended team based in San Jose, California
- Frequent interactions with cross-functional teams, including algorithm, platform, and software tools teams
- Occasional interactions with field application and marketing teams
Main Job Responsibilities
- Validation Strategy & Metric Design: Define comprehensive validation protocols and performance metrics for multi-sensor platforms (IMU). You will design the \"ground truth\" strategies needed to validate complex signal processing and algorithms.
- Campaign Leadership & Root Cause Analysis: Lead end-to-end validation campaigns and provide expert interpretation of the results. You will move beyond pass/fail reporting to provide deep-dive root cause analysis of signal regressions or physical anomalies.
- Automation Architecture & Robotics: Architect and oversee the evolution of our Python-based validation frameworks. This includes integrating robotic motion control systems to automate physical sensor stimulation and data collection.
- Firmware Quality Scrutiny: Leverage your expertise in Embedded C to conduct technical reviews of driver code during validation. You will identify risks in memory management and performance to ensure the highest quality of firmware deliverables.
- Technical Project Coordination & Scoping: Represent the SQA team in cross-functional meetings to define validation scopes and provide accurate effort estimations. You will act as the SQA representative in technical project follow-ups and assist the Director in identifying risks to keep projects on schedule.
- Mentorship & Collaborative Growth: Drive the technical excellence of the SQA team. You will adapt your technical leadership style to empower juniors, guide seniors, and align with staff-level peers through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
Essential Skills and Experience
Experience & Education:
- MSc or Engineering degree in Embedded Systems, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- 12-15+ years of experience in Software/System Validation or Embedded Development, with a clear track record in the semiconductor or sensor industry.
- Expert C-Code Auditing:
- Deep expertise in Embedded C with the ability to perform high-level technical reviews. You must be able to identify architectural risks, memory management issues, and performance bottlenecks in firmware drivers without necessarily being the primary developer.
- Expert-level Python proficiency, focused on building scalable, object-oriented test frameworks.
- Practical experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) automation, including the control of robotic systems or actuators for physical data collection.
- Signal Processing & Physics:
- Advanced knowledge of Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Applying filters, FFTs, and statistical analysis to validate raw sensor data against ground truth.
- Strong understanding of Sensor Physics: Ability to interpret physical phenomena (Inertial, Optics, Magnetic) and understand how environmental factors like noise, bias instability, and temperature affect digital output.
- Strategic Scoping & Leadership:
- Proven ability to scope validation efforts and provide accurate estimations for complex technical projects.
- Strong interpersonal leadership: the ability to navigate complex team dynamics and mentor engineers of different levels (Junior to Staff). You possess the pedagogical skills to simplify complex concepts for juniors and the professional maturity to challenge and align with higher level stakeholders.
- Problem Solving & Autonomy:
- A \"System-level\" mindset: The ability to troubleshoot complex issues that sit at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and physics.
- Strong professional autonomy with a focus on delivering \"customer release-ready\" documentation and high-quality validation reports.
