Job Description

Airbus Aerosystems Kinston (North Carolina) Sub-Assembly facility is looking for a Production Line Manager (PLM) to lead the operations of A350 S15 Passenger Door Surround (PDS) and Forward Lower Shell (FLS) frames. The PLM is responsible for technical leadership, oversight of all manufacturing activities within the purview of all PDS & FLS frames stations, and ensuring effective coordination between the multiple processes supervised.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all employees assigned to PDS & FLS frames stations, including selection, performance management, development needs, and employee recognition.
  • Provide direction and oversight to production activities and monitor progress of the PDS & FLS frames through the stations.
  • Act as a role model and leader in the observance of OSHA rules and regulations, ensuring the importance of safety is in the forefront of thought and action.
  • Lead the PDS & FLS frames multi‑functional team and report to upper level management on progress, potential problems, and solutions.
  • Coordinate and communicate station activities throughout the line, ensuring orders and material availability to guarantee work progress.
  • Apply insight, experience and interpersonal skills to foster integration among team members.
  • Proactively identify and resolve problems to prevent disagreements and encourage cooperative work relationships.
  • Engage with support staff from Quality, Procurement and other specialty areas to improve workflow and enhance existing processes.
  • Develop manpower forecast requirements based on workload and necessary skill sets to meet delivery schedules.
  • Identify, eliminate, and anticipate problems in the manufacturing process early and continuously.
  • Support the station in achieving annual objectives (e.g., CI, Quality Gates, KPIs) and ensure compliance with costs, quality specifications and customer expectations.
  • Handle PDS & FLS frames documentation for hand‑over to next station, including WO attestation, folio update, NC rectification, intervention cards and removal‑sheet‑book.
  • Oversee daily attendance and time management of the assigned employee group.
  • Ensure that all value‑added time is approved in the work‑booking system.

Continuous Improvement Duties

  • Support implementation and development of AOS improvement activities.
  • Master all elements of the Performance Management Center, including Production Pace Control (PPC), Standard Line Balancing (SLB), SQCDP, Quality Gate and Practical Problem Solving processes.
  • Support action plans to improve AOS grade for the assigned area.

Training and Development

  • Mentor and develop first‑level managers in leadership and production processes.
  • Provide documented development plans for workforce career progression.
  • Provide input to the training department for personnel development needs.
  • Aide in developing training criteria for the assigned area.
  • Manage corrective actions with employees as appropriate.
  • Participate in the Crisis Management Team and, if needed, lead the team.
  • Act as an escalation point during 2nd shift and off‑shift working times, providing support for any emergencies that may arise.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in aviation manufacturing or equivalent.
  • 8–10 years of leadership experience in aviation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality and logistics rules in aviation manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills at all levels and ability to handle complex information.
  • Experience in a complex, growing, and dynamic environment with a matrixed reporting structure is preferred.

5% domestic/international travel.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; SAP and MES preferred.

  • Daily decisions range from work allocation and planning to routine daily task decisions.

Physical Requirements

  • Vision adequate to read material on computer screens and engage in business interactions.
  • Hearing sufficient for conversation and safety alerts.

  • Ability to operate tools and equipment including hydraulic lifts and arms.
  • Occasional carrying up to 20 lbs, lifting up to 30 lbs, pushing/pulling items.
  • Sitting, standing, squatting/kneeling for extended periods as needed.
  • Travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods and on short notice.
  • Walking through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces as required.
