Job Description

Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a Strategic Technology Lead (f/m) to join our Airbus Public Safety & Security (PSS) department based in Elancourt, France. PSS is a world‑leading provider of mission‑critical communication and collaboration solutions.

With a 25‑year legacy in narrowband radio, we are accelerating a bold transformation towards broadband connectivity – 5G, 5G‑Advanced, 6G, satellite‑backhaul and beyond; digitalised mission‑focused applications that provide capabilities beyond voice and data services; end‑to‑end cloud‑native software integrated with modern IT stacks (VNF, SD‑WAN, NFV, AI, quantum‑optimised networking); and hybrid operations ensuring coexistence of legacy narrowband with next‑gen broadband networks.

Responsibilities

• Lead the transformation – building a unified CTO organisation that integrates seven strategic activities, defines clear ownership, and establishes robust coordination and governance processes.
• Shape the future of mission‑critical collaboration solutions by setting the technical vision for connectivity technologies and the commercial landscape.
• Decide which technologies enter into our portfolio to deliver more value to users and achieve business growth objectives.
• Support standard‑setting success – leverage contributions to 3GPP working groups, influence ETSI specifications, and turn regulatory changes into competitive advantages.
• Secure IP and market position by overseeing patent strategy, managing the portfolio, and protecting innovations while ensuring cost efficiency.
• Forge strategic partnerships – identify and negotiate with technology vendors, telco and cloud providers, academia, and industry consortia.
• Champion cross‑functional collaboration – act as the bridge between engineering, sales, operations, and procurement to align technology roadmaps with customer needs and business goals.
• Represent PSS globally – speak at conferences, media, and internal tech events; build a reputation as a thought leader in mission‑critical communications.
• Ensure regulatory compliance – stay ahead of evolving spectrum, cybersecurity, and data‑privacy regulations (NIS2, Cyber Resilience Act, ITU, NATO).
• Maintain awareness of any potential compliance risks and act with integrity, as the foundation for the company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in telecom/mission‑critical communications, with at least 8 years in a senior technology leadership role.
• Proven expertise in 4G/5G, 5G‑Advanced, 6G concepts, broadband radio, satellite backhaul; capable of integrating AI‑driven networking, quantum‑resilient security, and standards processes.
• Strategic vision to translate market trends and regulatory shifts into actionable roadmaps and partnerships.
• Hands‑on experience in 3GPP/ETSI working groups, spectrum management, and navigating global regulatory frameworks.
• Understanding of patent filing, portfolio optimisation, and IP strategy.
• Track record of building high‑performing, cross‑functional teams; excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Global mindset, comfortable operating across multiple geographies, cultures, and time zones.
• Position requires a security clearance or eligibility for clearance by recognised authorities.
