Job Description

Metro State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, occasionally needs community (adjunct) faculty to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. These positions are temporary and part‑time, and in the Department of Writing, Literature, and Language.

Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate ability to teach academic writing courses effectively at the undergraduate level. Outstanding candidates will demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student‑centered education in a liberal arts context and will possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition, writing studies, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach college‑level writing or first‑year composition.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse student population.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching college‑level writing in both conventional and online formats.
  • Ability to learn to use a learning management system (Brightspace D2L) for course information, assignments, and grades.
  • Experience with curriculum development and professional development participation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multilingual and adult learners in first‑year writing or similar academic contexts.
