Within the OneTech branch of TotalEnergies, you will join the Solaize Research Center, located 15 minutes south of Lyon.*
The site brings together more than 300 researchers in a green environment .
It is one of TotalEnergies' main R&D centers, specifically dedicated to :
- Developing solutions as well as measurement and control tools for greenhouse gas emissions
- Formulating low environmental impact and decarbonized products for thermal and electric mobility, as well as for industry (non-fossil fuels from renewable sources, lubricants, heat transfer fluids, bitumen, etc.)
*Activités*
TotalEnergies is committed to becoming a leader in sustainable mobility. This includes improving the longevity of road infrastructure, particularly bitumen—a key product in our portfolio. To support this ambition, we are developing numerical models to quantify and predict bitumen lifespan on roads, a strategic priority for the Company. The numerical model is multiphysics, coupling mechanical, thermal, and chemical phenomena, with finite element discretization. We are seeking a trainee engineer to join our research and development team.
In this role, you will contribute to the deployment and enhancement of our road performance and durability prediction model through the following missions :
- Operate and analyze the numerical model and its modules (fatigue, ageing, micromechanics)
- Apply the model to various bitumen formulations study (conventional binders, polymer-modified, recycled, biosourced)
- Identify key influencing model input parameters and conduct parametric analyses on material properties
- Apply inverse modeling to guide formulation strategies for target performance metrics
- Develop a workflow to automate simulations and integrate experimental data and numerical modules
- Contribute to technical reporting and present findings
- Write a formal internship report with clear conclusions

Background in

Comfortable with a common programming language (Python, MATLAB, etc.) is a plus
Interest in pavement materials and durability modeling
Motivation, rigor, analytical skills, autonomy, and interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team and communicate effectively are qualities that are highly valued.
