Staff Software Architect, LearnWith.AI (Remote) - $200,000/year USD

Overview

We are seeking Platform Architects to establish the technical foundations upon which multiple teams depend. Your work will focus on platform-level systems where your architectural choices, API design, and documentation directly influence development across teams.

Potential Product Assignments

• TimeBack: Educational platform supporting Alpha School's 2-hour learning model (99th percentile test results)
• Incept: Content generation platform producing personalized educational content across multiple learning applications
• Crossover: AI-powered hiring platform handling tens of thousands of applicants each month

This role emphasizes design: 50% producing specifications, API contracts, and technical decisions; 30% building complex platform capabilities; 20% reviewing work and providing architectural guidance. You hold technical authority on architectural choices. Once team alignment is achieved, your specifications become binding.

Compact team of skilled engineers, substantial ownership, zero bureaucracy. You design the system, you implement it, you maintain it.

What You Will Be Doing

• Producing specifications prior to any implementation work
• Creating APIs that maintain backward compatibility and allow for future extension
• Authoring Important Technical Decisions (ITDs) complete with supporting rationale
• Implementing sophisticated platform features
• Conducting PR reviews to ensure architectural alignment

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Extensive team leadership or management of personnel
• Development on straightforward application-level products
• Attending prolonged meeting cycles
• Purely theoretical architecture without hands-on implementation

Basic Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience
• Minimum 2 years designing systems in which other teams utilized your APIs or relied on your architectural choices
• Demonstrated history of producing technical specifications or technical decisions subsequently implemented by others
• Practical experience integrating AI tools into development workflows

Working with us

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
