Staff Research Scientist, FAIR (RL / LLM's)

Meta is seeking Research Scientists to join our Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team, an organization focused on making research breakthroughs in AI. Individuals in this role are expected to be world‑leading experts in research areas such as machine learning theory, responsible AI, reinforcement learning, computer vision, audio, and/or natural language processing. Ideal candidates have a track record of producing seminal science that advances understanding of intelligence, especially in building and analyzing large‑scale models for vision, language, speech, or general agents.

Staff Research Scientist, FAIR (RL / LLM's) Responsibilities

• Perform research to advance the science and technology of intelligent machines.
• Conduct research that enables learning the semantics of data across modalities such as images, video, text, audio, and code.
• Work toward long‑term ambitious research goals while identifying immediate milestones.
• Influence the progress of relevant research communities by publishing high‑impact work.
• Open‑source high‑quality code and produce reproducible research.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a PhD degree in Computer Science, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience, completed prior to joining Meta.
• Research background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, computational statistics, applied mathematics, or related areas.
• Publications demonstrating theoretical or empirical research experience.
• Experience with Python or similar programming languages for development and debugging.
• Ability to analyze and collect data from diverse sources.
• Current work authorization in the country of employment and ongoing authorization during employment.

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or sales incentives, if applicable.
