About the Role
Staff Engineer – responsible for shaping and sustaining a resilient, secure and scalable platform that powers our engineering organization. The role combines strategic technical leadership with hands‑on engineering work.
Responsibilities
- Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy across multiple teams and domains, focusing on product outcomes and user impact.
- Design and evolve fault‑tolerant, scalable distributed systems.
- Guide teams toward sound architectural decisions and coordinate initiatives across multiple squads.
- Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to balance technical trade‑offs with business value.
- Tackle essential work such as stack upgrades (PHP, Symfony) and technical migrations.
- Write production code across different domains and rapidly context‑switch between technical subjects.
- Resolve crisis situations such as critical infrastructure incidents.
- Lead the implementation of the new engineering framework (priority #1).
- Define and enforce engineering standards related to reliability, security, testing and deployment.
- Lead the transition toward fully automated, self‑healing and immutable infrastructure.
- Drive platform‑wide initiatives that improve developer productivity, system reliability and end‑user experience.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering and cloud infrastructure management.
- At least 3 years in senior or staff‑level technical leadership roles.
- Strong track record of leading complex technical projects without direct managerial authority.
- Senior software engineering experience with PHP and Symfony.
- Solid experience with Node.js; Nuxt experience is a plus.
- Strong DevOps expertise: Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, observability.
- Experience designing, scaling and operating fault‑tolerant distributed systems.
- Ability to work across multiple programming languages and contexts.
- Deep expertise in system design and distributed systems architecture.
- Proven ability to make and communicate clear technical trade‑offs.
- Orchestration of complex technical transitions across multiple teams.
- Crisis management experience and composure under pressure.
- Strong opinions with ability to advocate while driving consensus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (fluent required).
- Strong product mindset with ability to understand business context and user needs.
- Ability to evolve in a fast‑changing environment, reevaluating priorities to deliver the right impact.
- Bonus: Experience in SaaS or AI‑powered platforms, security engineering, large‑scale platform engineering or legal tech.
