Staff Engineer – Paris, Full-Time

Location: Paris

Contract Type: Full-Time

Job Description

Jus Mundi is looking for a Staff Engineer to play a critical role in shaping and sustaining a resilient, secure, and scalable platform that acts as a force multiplier for our entire engineering organization. The Engineering Product Design team’s North Star is “Zero-friction delivery”: we deliver business value at speed and securely by mastering simple, standardized engineering practices. You will be the technical guardian of this mission, doing whatever it takes, from hands‑on implementation to cross‑team orchestration, grounding every technical decision in product impact and a deep understanding of our business context (users, workflows, and value drivers).

Responsibilities

  • Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy across multiple teams and domains, focusing on product outcomes and user impact.
  • Design and evolve fault‑tolerant, scalable distributed systems.
  • Guide teams toward sound architectural decisions and coordinate initiatives across multiple squads.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to balance technical trade‑offs with business value.
  • Tackle essential work such as stack upgrades (PHP, Symfony) and technical migrations.
  • Write production code across different domains and rapidly context‑switch between technical subjects.
  • Jump into crisis situations and drive resolution (e.g., critical infrastructure incidents).
  • Lead by example in code quality, testing strategies, security by design, and deployment best practices.
  • Lead the implementation of our new engineering framework (priority #1).
  • Define and enforce engineering standards related to reliability, security, testing, and deployment.
  • Lead the transition toward fully automated, self‑healing, and immutable infrastructure.
  • Drive platform‑wide initiatives that improve developer productivity, system reliability, and end‑user experience.

Preferred Experience

  • 10 + years of professional experience in software engineering and cloud infrastructure management.
  • At least 3 years in senior or staff‑level technical leadership roles.
  • Strong track record of leading complex technical projects without direct managerial authority.

Technical Stack & DevOps

  • Senior software engineering experience with PHP and Symfony (our core backend stack).
  • Solid experience with Node.js (Nuxt experience is a plus but not critical).
  • Strong DevOps expertise: Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CICD, Observability.
  • Experience designing, scaling, and operating fault‑tolerant distributed systems.
  • Ability to work across multiple programming languages and contexts.

System Design & Architecture

  • Deep expertise in system design and distributed systems architecture.
  • Proven ability to make and communicate clear technical trade‑offs.
  • Experience orchestrating complex technical transitions across multiple teams.

Leadership & Communication

  • Crisis management experience and composure under pressure.
  • Strong opinions with ability to advocate for positions while driving consensus.
  • Excellent capacity to convince, guide, and drive technical decisions.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English (fluent required).
  • Strong product mindset with ability to understand business context and user needs.
  • Ability to evolve in a fast‑changing environment, reevaluating priorities and choosing the right impact at the right time under multi‑lever requirements.

Bonus

  • Experience in SaaS or AI‑powered platforms, security engineering, large‑scale platform engineering, or legal tech environments.

Benefits

  • Hybrid working organization that combines remote and on‑site work (2 days).
  • 5 weeks of vacation each year, taken at your convenience.
  • 100 % coverage of private health insurance for yourself and your children.
  • 60 % company‑funded restaurant vouchers for weekday meals (Swile).
  • Participation in company‑wide summits called JM Fest to connect and inspire.
  • Co‑financed ClassPass membership with access to fitness and wellness activities.
  • Flexibility to work from anywhere across the globe for up to 8 weeks per year.
  • Relocation assistance to help ease your transition to France.
  • Commitment to building a warm, inclusive, and diverse environment.

Additional Information

  • Contract Type: Full‑Time
  • Location: Paris
  • Experience: > 10 years
  • Possible partial remote
