Varian Medical Systems, a Siemens Healthineers company, is hiring a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer for our location in Shoreview, Minnesota. This role is a key technical resource supporting all phases of new platform development from concept to post‑market support.

About this Fast‑Paced Role

The Senior Electrical Systems Engineer will architect, design, select, evaluate critical system components, prototype, test, and release production electronics for needles and consoles. Responsibilities include electronic circuit board design using embedded processors, RF communications, display technologies, pump and motor technologies, and the development of test techniques to evaluate amplifiers, antennas, and high‑frequency interconnects. The engineer will collaborate with other engineers to improve designs and optimize performance.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, develop, test and transfer to production electromechanical systems and disposables for product development activities.
  • Design system diagrams, architecture, component selection, schematic entry, layout support, prototype build oversight, prototype testing, transfer to production support.
  • Research product development solutions and provide analysis for product direction.
  • Consult internal stakeholders to identify customer needs and translate requirements into design.
  • Collaborate with other design engineers to optimize designs based on test results.
  • Work with external vendors and partners to accelerate development and testing.
  • Develop fixtures and use off‑the‑shelf equipment to evaluate performance of new ablation systems.
  • Create documentation and support materials for design and development activities.
  • Maintain ethical and professional standards in all engagements.
  • Provide technical support as a hands‑on resource for mechanical, electrical, and software teams.
  • Exemplify Varian cultural beliefs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. in Electrical or related engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in electronics and system design for new product development.
  • Experience developing software‑driven electromechanical medical devices.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer (schematic capture, PCB layout, circuit simulation, component selection, safety, power distribution architecture).
  • Experience with wireless communications (Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, RFID).
  • Expertise using spectrum analyzers, high‑frequency scopes and test instrumentation.
  • Hands‑on prototyping and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to create clear product design documentation (concept diagrams, specifications, requirements, test plans, V&V reports).
  • Experience in a team‑distributed, collaborative environment.
  • Experience transferring new product designs into production.
  • Highly self‑motivated with strong attention to detail.
  • Adaptability and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Independent judgment and ability to prioritize and execute in high‑pressure environments.

Desired Additional Experience

  • Previous experience with ablation devices.
  • Experience working in ISO 13845 quality management system.
  • Experience with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories for IEC 60601 compliance.
  • Experience designing equipment for MRI compatibility.

Base Pay Range

$131,910 – $181,379 per year. Factors affecting starting pay include geography, skills, education, and experience.
