Senior Manager, Architectural Design – Royal Caribbean Group
The Senior Manager, Architectural Design provides a primary leadership role and expertise for new building projects as assigned by the EVP of New Buildings. The incumbent continually directs the activities of architects, designers, and professional consultants to achieve brand‑specific design concept goals for the various brands, and serves as a conduit of information and intelligence from the corporation to outside architects and design firms, ensuring the success of these groups.
Responsibilities
- Directs, develops and maintains the overall design process for all assigned projects, forming and maintaining brand‑specific design concepts that are apparent, credible, and fulfill the voice of the Corporation and each Brand.
- Evaluates the talent and effort of architects, designers, and consultants; monitors the quality and suitability of their work, ensuring design goals are met, and provides feedback using brand concepts as a target.
- Participates with senior management in the development of long‑range planning and objectives, including budgetary matters, and evaluates monthly and quarterly results.
- Embraces the value of the design guidelines and standards, CADD & drawing standards, and contractual references, taking leadership to ensure they are fulfilled within design drawings and specifications, and is ultimately accountable that materials are delivered on a timely basis.
- Develops team resources (people, processes, tools) to manage large‑scale projects and independently plans, manages, guides design, and oversees projects while cross‑coordinating and sharing best practices between external architectural, interior design, and consultancy firms.
- Upholds SQM practices throughout all design phases and brings pro‑activeness in creating new methods and processes for better execution of the work.
- Creates presentations and project reports as updates for Executive Management review.
- Creates planning models that support the organization’s mission and value based on internal and external needs assessment, and monitors the external environment to identify opportunities required to execute the department’s strategy.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design or Architecture required; an architectural background is preferred. MBA preferred.
- 8–15 years of experience within the cruise design industry, preferably within a mid‑to large‑high‑end hospitality environment, and a minimum of 8 years managing multi‑million‑dollar projects.
- Proven management experience with direct subordinate manager(s) and staff.
- Ability to travel internationally or domestically 25% of the time.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills, and clear, precise communication at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and employees across diverse cultures around the world.
- Requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills to convey aesthetic concepts and requirements of the Design group to technical and non‑technical individuals, simplifying complexity.
- Requires strong teamwork and collaborative leadership skills to develop rapport within the department, with other departments, and externally.
- Possesses self‑motivation with the ability to mobilize people and resources to action within a high‑paced environment.
- Proficient in basic Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Microsoft Project experience is desired. Lotus Notes experience is desired.
- Must be results‑oriented and able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with little to no guidance while highly motivated to excel.
- Requires a significant amount of interpersonal communications and interaction to be successful at this work.
