Sr. EHS Specialist, Energy Construction in , us
What to Expect
Tesla's Commercial Deployment team installs utility-scale battery energy storage systems across North America – from site mobilization through commissioning and grid interconnection. This is the fastest‑growing segment of Tesla Energy, and the EHS demands are unlike anything else in the industry: high‑voltage systems, lithium‑ion battery hazards, heavy construction, and multi‑trade contractor coordination on remote sites. As a Sr. EHS Specialist supporting Commercial Deployment, you'll be embedded with project teams at active Megapack construction sites. You'll own EHS oversight from mobilization through energization – managing contractor safety programs, driving hazard recognition in high‑voltage electrical and heavy lift environments, and ensuring every site meets Tesla's standards. This is a field‑first role with 30‑40% travel to project sites across North America.
What You’ll Do
- Own EHS oversight and develop site‑specific safety plans for Megapack deployment projects, covering utility‑scale BESS installations, high‑voltage electrical work, and heavy lifts across all construction phases
- Lead contractor EHS management, including capability building through field coaching, toolbox talks, pre‑task planning, and targeted training
- Respond to and investigate EHS events, conduct root cause analyses, and drive corrective/preventive actions to closure with project and construction teams
- Partner with project managers and construction leads to integrate EHS requirements into schedules, milestones, and gate reviews
- Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926, NFPA 70E, NFPA 855, NEC, and site‑specific AHJ/permitting requirements
- Track EHS performance metrics across the NA Commercial Deployment portfolio, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement
- Coordinate with global Commercial Deployment EHS teams (APAC, EMEA) to align standards, share lessons learned, and maintain consistent safety performance
What You’ll Bring
- 3+ years of progressive EHS experience in construction, energy, or industrial operations with a degree in EHS, engineering, or a related technical field
- Experience in battery energy storage, power, transmission, or distribution; direct BESS experience (lithium‑ion, thermal runaway, NFPA 855) strongly
- Strong working knowledge of high‑voltage electrical safety including NFPA 70E, arc flash analysis, LOTO, energized work permits, and medium‑voltage switchgear
- Demonstrated success managing contractor safety programs on active construction sites
- Practical experience in key construction safety disciplines: fall protection, crane/rigging, excavation, confined space, hot work, and heavy equipment operations
- Solid knowledge of OSHA, state‑plan, and local regulatory requirements in construction environments; familiarity with AHJ inspections is a plus
- Willingness for extended field deployments to remote project sites across North America (this is a field‑based role, not a desk job) combined with strong problem‑solving and cross‑functional influencing skills
