Sr. Chemist - Packing (Haridwar)
Job Objective
Responsible for quality testing, inspection, chemical analysis and process-quality control of hard packaging materials . The role will ensure that incoming raw materials, in-process materials and finished packaging products meet defined quality specifications and customer requirements.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Raw Material Testing
- Conduct testing and inspection of incoming raw materials.
- Check COA, specifications and test reports .
- Perform chemical and physical testing as per approved specifications.
- Maintain records of raw-material test results.
- Coordinate with Purchase and QA for raw-material quality issues.
B. In-Process & Finished Product Testing
- Carry out routine testing of packaging materials during production.
- Monitor critical quality parameters and identify process deviations.
- Test finished products against customer and internal specifications.
- Prepare test reports and release recommendations.
- Investigate abnormal test results and initiate corrective actions.
C. Packaging Material Testing
Depending on the product, exposure to testing of plastic, rigid packaging, bottles, containers, closures, tubes or other hard-packaging components will be preferred.
Typical testing may include:
- Dimension and weight
- Thickness
- Density
- Appearance
- Color / shade
- Moisture
- Chemical resistance
- Leakage / seal integrity
- Torque / opening force
- Drop / impact testing
- Compression / load testingEnvironmental / temperature testing
- Migration / compatibility testing, where applicable
D. Laboratory Management
- Maintain laboratory instruments, chemicals and testing facilities.
- Ensure calibration and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping and safety standards.
- Prepare and update SOPs and test methods.
- Ensure proper documentation and traceability of test results.
E. Quality Improvement
- Analyze rejection, customer complaints and process deviations.
- Conduct RCA using 5 Why, Fishbone and Pareto analysis .
- Support CAPA implementation.
- Work with Production and Process teams to reduce rejection and improve product quality.
- Participate in Kaizen and continuous-improvement activities.
F. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain:
- Test reports
- COA
- Raw-material inspection reports
- In-process inspection records
- Finished-product records
- Calibration records
- Stability/compatibility reports
- Non-conformance reports
- Follow applicable ISO/GMP/quality-system requirements .
- Ensure laboratory activities comply with safety and environmental requirements.
3. Cross-Functional Responsibilities
- Coordinate with Production, QA, R&D, Maintenance, Purchase and Customer Quality teams.
- Provide technical support for quality-related production issues.
- Participate in customer complaint investigations.
- Support new-product trials and validation activities.
- Train junior chemists and laboratory technicians.
4. Qualification
M.Sc. / B.Sc. – Chemistry
Candidates with specialization in Analytical Chemistry / Polymer Chemistry / Industrial Chemistry will be preferred.
5. Experience
3–8 years of relevant experience in hard packaging / plastic packaging / rigid packaging / packaging material manufacturing .
Candidates from industries such as plastic bottles, containers, closures, tubes, rigid packaging, pharma packaging, cosmetic packaging or FMCG packaging will be preferred.
