Specialist, Electrical Engineer Power Supply Design

Location

Salt Lake City, Utah

Schedule

9/80 - Employees work 9 out of every 14 days totaling 80 hours worked, and have every other Friday off.

Responsibilities

  • Design AC/DC and DC/DC power converters.
  • Design and analyze EMI filters.
  • Generate power distribution architectures.
  • Simulate and analyze analog/power circuits for stability, efficiency, power draw, in‑rush, etc.
  • Write and review specifications and test approaches for power supply circuit designs.
  • Select and design magnetic components for discrete power converter designs.
  • Create schematics for analog/power circuits and support printed circuit card design.
  • Conduct and participate in internal peer design reviews, design verification testing of engineering units, and oversee design into production.
  • Perform analog and power testing in a laboratory setting for development components and circuit cards.
  • Work with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams for digital, RF, mechanical and systems engineers on overall program/project performance.
  • Track milestones, budgets and prioritize tasks to meet allocated schedule and financials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of relevant experience (Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering), or
  • Graduate Degree and minimum 2 years of relevant experience, or
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum 8 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills

  • Experience with power conversion design, power analysis, analog circuit simulation, control loops and stabilization.
  • Proficiency in Mathcad Prime, Excel or similar tools.
  • Proficiency with electrical simulation tools such as SPICE or piecewise‑linear modeling tools (SIMPLIS a plus).
  • Experience with CAD tools, preferably MentorGraphics, for schematic entry and layout.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and ability to coordinate efforts through all phases of engineering and manufacturing.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required.
  • Experience with common lab equipment (electronic loads, bench power supplies, function generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD security clearance is a plus.
  • Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑704, MIL‑STD‑1275, MIL‑STD‑1399, and MIL‑STD‑461 is a plus.
  • Proficiency with MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Design experience in military, high‑reliability or other ruggedized industries.
