Job Overview

Varian Medical Systems (VMS), a Siemens Healthineers company, hires a Software Installation Engineer for a remote position with an estimated 50% travel requirement. Preference for candidates located in or near the midwestern or eastern side of the USA.

What You Will Do

  • Execute the installation of a technical discipline at the installation site.
  • Perform highly visible on‑site and remote software installations and upgrades of all Varian Software products, including troubleshooting and diagnosis as needed.
  • Work with physical and virtual environments, operating systems, databases and other software and networking technologies.
  • Review scope of work for assigned tasks to ensure all hardware and software components are available.
  • Review customer IT infrastructure and project plans to ensure they meet documented installation requirements.
  • Complete all necessary task documentation to meet Varian’s Quality processes and procedures.
  • Maintain customer system inventories using Site Equipment Configuration documentation or equivalent.
  • Keep current on Varian products and technologies through both internal and external training and certification.
  • Team up with project management, local service and hardware installation teams to provide world class customer service.
  • Require limited direct supervision.
  • Perform upgrades and new installations as well as team leader duties on small to medium scale software projects.
  • Input detailed records of installation and upgrade work performed into company information systems to ensure accurate updated customer installation information is available to other VMS functions.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and safety according to VMS guidelines and customer regulations in order to perform activities under the safest working conditions.
  • Report by means of time sheets, expense reports, etc. regularly and in a timely fashion to ensure that accurate company statistical data on customer‑oriented activities is available.
  • Use prescribed problem‑resolution escalation procedures and request technical assistance when necessary, in a timely manner.
  • Attend planning calls and provide technical input as needed. Advise customers on where to find Customer Technical Bulletins, Release Notes and related product information and why these documents are important.
  • Advise less experienced Installation Representatives in technical matters.
  • Willing to travel 50% to locations in the USA and Canada.

What You Will Have

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience and 1‑3 years of directly related and transferable experience.
  • Proficient computer usage and debugging skills.
  • Knowledge of and sound professional experience with Microsoft‑based server operating systems.
  • Customer‑focused attitude, articulate and skilled in interpersonal communication.
  • Fluency in the local language and in English, both written and spoken.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of networks and networking techniques.
  • Functional knowledge of Citrix and VMWare technologies.
  • Familiar with business tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and time reporting systems.

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this position is: $58,240.00 – $88,080.00 USD. Factors which may affect starting pay include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.

If this is a commission‑eligible position, commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company’s plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
