Software Engineer, Android
Join to apply for the Software Engineer, Android role at amo
Looking for someone to join us as an early member of the Android team. This means participating in all design and product decisions of the early days of a product‑centric company.
In the initial months, you'll be working closely with the founding team, gradually taking ownership of central components and features. Given our early stage, we’re seeking versatile engineers comfortable contributing to various aspects of the company’s foundation.
We value team members who delve deep into their respective domains, cultivating a team of subject matter experts. This commitment to expertise is an expectation for every team member.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Feature Development – Deliver unique and high‑quality UI features in a fast‑paced environment. Push the boundaries of what’s possible, leveraging low‑level APIs, shader creation for dynamic effects, and custom rendering systems.
- Platform Development – Participate in creating and enhancing platform‑wide abstractions used by other Android team members, including media encoding/decoding/playback libraries, performance tracing tools, and navigation/deep‑link components.
- Roadmap Creation and Ideation – Contribute to roadmap creation and ideation, identifying trade‑offs and bringing valuable ideas from both product and engineering perspectives.
- Knowledge Sharing – Actively share the latest trends and best practices, attending conferences, engaging in online communities, and sharing insights internally.
- Owning your Scope – Monitor analytics and system crashes, taking ownership of your scope, and proactively addressing issues and triaging bug fixes.
Qualifications
- Professional experience in native Android development using Kotlin or Java.
- Good understanding of computer systems fundamentals (program execution, linking, multithreading, memory management, processes, and file systems).
- Professional experience in low‑level languages such as C or C++ is a significant advantage.
- Passion and experience building consumer‑facing products—please share apps you’ve made.
- Experience building SDKs/libraries for other developers.
- English proficiency is sufficient for on‑boarding; French is not required.
Life at amo
- Work onsite in our central Paris office, 5 days a week.
- Bright, spacious office with large windows, natural light, and balcony views.
- Two weeks of company shutdowns each summer and one week in winter for recharge (vacation time).
- Health care is fully covered, paid maternity/paternity/second‑parent leave at 100% salary.
- 8–9 weeks of vacation per year, plus additional paid time off, and ~11 bank holidays.
- Relocation support for Paris, including visa sponsorship, Airbnb housing 100% covered for one month, and assistance with French paperwork and lessons.
