Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction for students who are deaf and hard of hearing in their primary mode of communication within a residential education setting.
• Conduct individual and small‑group instruction in academic areas such as reading, math, science, and any other non‑academic areas as needed.
• Become knowledgeable about and implement assigned curricula, prepare daily lessons, and utilize acquired and accumulated materials, resources, and manipulatives.
• Assess and document students’ progress and performance.
• Plan instructional activities; prepare IEPs, report cards, and related documentation; supervise and instruct teaching assistants; gather and prepare instructional materials.
• Supervise student teachers and/or observers from various colleges.
• Participate in school‑related activities, committee meetings, and in‑service workshops; plan and implement field trips.
• Administer, proctor, compile, submit any and all state‑mandated tests, portfolios, and inventories.
• Communicate with other residential and student support programs, serve as liaison between academic staff and parents, local educational agencies, and other schools.

Minimum Education and Experience

Eligibility may be based on an equivalent combination of education and experience. Refer to the Dept. of Public Instruction guidelines for specific requirements.
