Satellite Ground and Operations Segment Architect
Satellite Ground and Operations Segment Architect
Ground and Operations Segment Architect – In-Orbit Servicing Mission
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Ground and Operations Segment Architect to join our team in delivering an advanced In-Orbit Servicing (IOS) mission . This role is central to the success of the program, responsible for the end-to-end architecture, development, integration, and validation of the ground and operations infrastructure supporting on-orbit services such as inspection, life extension, and space situational awareness (SSA).
This is a high-impact position requiring close collaboration with spacecraft teams, mission operations, ground stations, autonomy specialists, and international partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop the ground segment, including Mission Control Center (MCC), TT&C systems, data processing, and ground infrastructure interfaces.
- Define and validate requirements, interfaces, and functional decompositions.
- Produce system-level documentation such as ICDs, CONOPS, and operational workflows.
- Define mission operations concepts across all phases: pre-launch, launch, commissioning, rendezvous, docking, servicing, and end-of-life disposal.
- Collaborate with GNC and autonomy teams to ensure seamless integration with on-orbit autonomous behaviors.
- Lead development of flight and ground procedures, anomaly response strategies, and contingency plans.
- Oversee integration of ground software (MCS, FDS, automation) with simulators and hardware-in-the-loop test environments.
- Define and execute ground validation activities, SVTs, and mission rehearsals.
- Work with spacecraft subsystem leads, ground station providers, software teams, and mission assurance functions to ensure cohesive operations.
- Act as technical liaison with customers and international ground infrastructure partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in ground systems, space operations, or systems architecture for space missions.
- Proven experience with TT&C systems, mission planning tools, spacecraft commanding, and telemetry handling.
- Strong knowledge of CCSDS standards and ground interface protocols (e.g., SCOS-2000, EPOCH, GMSEC).
- Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama).
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with in-orbit servicing, proximity operations, or autonomous rendezvous and docking.
- Familiarity with ECSS or NASA space mission standards.
- Knowledge of secure ground-to-space communications and cybersecurity best practices.
- Exposure to agile development methodologies, DevOps tools, or cloud-based ground system architectures.
