Sample Collections Officers (H/F)
We are seeking reliable, English-speaking Sample Collection Officers for assignments at various seaports across France. The role supports the independent witnessing of marine sample collection from merchant vessels and the secure transfer of samples to an appointed laboratory for analysis.
Responsibilities
- Attend the assigned merchant vessel promptly after receiving an assignment confirmation and comply with port, terminal and vessel access requirements.
- Witness the collection of samples by the authorised sampling party and observe that the stated sampling process is followed.
- Verify and record sample identification, labelling, sealing, time, location, persons present and other required chain-of-custody details.
- Ensure custody documentation is completed, signed where required, and retained or transmitted in accordance with the assignment instructions.
- Arrange or support the secure dispatch of sealed samples to the nominated laboratory, in line with the agreed chain-of-custody procedure.
- Provide clear, timely written reports and immediately escalate any discrepancy, damaged seal, delay or irregularity.
Important Scope Limitation
This role is observational and documentary in nature. The Sample Collection Officer does not perform laboratory analysis, certify product quality or quantity, alter samples, or substitute the responsibility of the authorised sampling party. The officer's primary function is to witness and document the authenticity and integrity of samples collected under the applicable chain-of-custody protocol.
Candidate Profile
- Prior experience in marine, port, terminal, cargo inspection, bunker, petroleum, chemical, laboratory logistics or survey operations is preferred.
- Comfortable working around merchant vessels and able to follow safety, security, PPE and port-entry requirements.
- Highly dependable, impartial, detail-oriented and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Valid right to work in France and ability to obtain or hold port-access credentials where required.
- Access to a mobile phone, email and reliable transport for short-notice port attendance.
