Safety Officer I or II

Assists in overseeing a district, division or marine safety program in accordance with the Occupational Safety Division Manual or Rules and Regulations Governing Ferry Operations. Works to create an active interest in accident prevention and the safety program. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties

Safety Officer I or II

• Assists in coordinating/processing permits and licenses with applicable resource and regulatory agencies; assists in preparing and maintaining current Tier Two and Workplace Chemical Lists.
• Coordinates safety meetings; usually involves planning, conducting, coordinating schedules and providing literature and audio-visual material
• Inspects equipment and work areas.
• Plans, schedules and monitors programs or activities that promote employee safety and accident prevention
• Spill prevention, containment and counter measures.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
• Administers the new employee driver's orientation program and the vehicle safety program.
• Assists or serves as the Substance Control Officer.
• Coordinates and schedules employee safety awards and the annual Safety Awards Banquet/Truck Roadeo.
• Monitors district's underground fuel storage tanks for compliance and assists with disposal of hazardous material wastes.
• Inspects equipment and work areas.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety , Industrial Technology, Business Admin or related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis.

Safety Officer I:

None

Safety Officer II:

1 YEAR Occupational safety, Industrial hygiene or related work areas. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications .

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
• Mandatory: Safety Impact Certificate

• Construction, maintenance and operation of transportation facilities

• The operation or removal of underground fuel storage tanks

• Researching, analyzing, and interpreting policies and state and federal laws and regulations specific to functional area

• Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files and reports

• Collaborates and cooperates with others and builds effective working relationships with internal and external members to accomplish organizational goals
• Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes
• Safety methods and procedures associated with warehousing hazardous materials
• Training in a classroom, office, or field environment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Sedentary work:Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
• Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
• Standing-prolonged periods of time
• Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
• Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour

Conditions of Employment

• This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
• Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

The Paris District is need of a Safety Officer I or II. This is a great opportunity to work hand in hand with the employees in the field as well as in the office. This opportunity will allow you to travel around the 9 counties in the Paris District overseeing the safety. This job opening is for one Safety Officer I or II depending on business need and applicant's qualifications and experience. Qualification and experience will determine the applicant's position and pay. Safety Officer I – B17 | $42,976 - $64,469 yearly

Safety Officer II – B19 | $48,244 - $76,028 yearly
