Reservoir Geomechanics Engineer
As a leading consulting firm addressing geoscience and engineering challenges, supported by the research and innovation of the IFPEN Group, Beicip-Franlab continues to strengthen its expertise in advanced geomechanical modelling. We are seeking a Reservoir Geomechanics Engineer with three to five years of experience to contribute to international consulting projects and R&D activities across Oil & Gas, geothermal energy, and other new energy applications.
The position focuses on developing and validating advanced 3D reservoir geomechanical, integrating geological, petrophysical, well, seismic, and reservoir data. The engineer will also contribute to coupled workflows and data transmission between reservoir and geomechanical models.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical foundations, practical modelling experience, programming capabilities, and the ability to collaborate with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, software engineers, and research teams. International project experience and clear technical communication are important for this role.
The position is based at Beicip-Franlab headquarters in France, with opportunities for international assignments and travel according to project needs.
As Reservoir Geomechanics Engineer, you will contribute to project delivery and R&D activities. You will be expected to:
- Develop, validate, calibrate, and analyse 1D and 3D reservoir geomechanical models integrating geological and petrophysical data.
- Take ownership of existing geomechanical models in different formats, particularly Petrel and Code_Aster models.
- Perform stress initialization using 3D finite-element modelling and evaluate stress-field evolution and reservoir deformation under production and injection scenarios.
- Investigate fault activation mechanisms, induced seismicity risk using appropriate modelling approaches.
- Contribute to hydraulic fracturing and stimulation studies, including fracture initiation, propagation, containment, and interaction with the stress field and existing discontinuities.
- Develop and assess data-transfer workflows between reservoir and geomechanical models.
- Use and develop workflows for modelling, data processing, quality control, automation, numerical analysis, and visualization.
- Participate in R&D projects dedicated to innovative geomechanical methodologies, model validation, coupled simulation, and workflow improvement.
- Collaborate with reservoir engineers, geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, software engineers, and external research partners.
- Document and communicate methods and results through technical reports, slides, presentations, and project deliverables.
- Contribute to technical proposals, project scoping, knowledge sharing, and the continuous improvement of internal methods and tools.
The balance between project work, R&D, software-related development, technical reporting, and international collaboration will vary according to business and project priorities.
The role is ideally suited for candidates who wish to:
- Contribute to technically challenging geomechanics projects in Oil & Gas, geothermal energy, and CCS.
- Work within multidisciplinary and international project teams.
- Combine consulting assignments, applied research, numerical modelling, and software-oriented activities.
- Develop expertise through collaboration with experienced geoscientists, engineers, researchers, and software developers.
The applicant should meet the following requirements to be eligible for the position:
- MSc, PhD, or Engineering degree in Geomechanics, Geophysics, Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering, Civil or Mining Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience in 1D MEM, reservoir geomechanics, hydraulic fracturing, induced seismicity, or coupled reservoir-geomechanical modelling.
- Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, continuum mechanics, and 3D finite-element modelling. Practical experience with Code_Aster or another finite-element solver is highly valued.
- Practical experience with Petrel and reservoir simulation software is valued. Proficiency in Python for scientific computing, data analysis, automation, and visualization is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary and international teams and to contribute to both operational projects and R&D activities.
- International experience or experience working with international clients and partners is highly valued.
- Fluent English is mandatory. French language skills are an advantage.
