Research Physics Solution Auditor

IXO needs careful reviews of scientific reasoning that go beyond detecting a wrong final answer. You will examine the steps of a physics solution, identify whether an objection changes the science, and provide feedback that another researcher can use to improve the work.

Work you will do

• Check derivations and theoretical arguments for unsupported steps, omitted conditions, dimensional errors and weak logical links.
• Distinguish substantive scientific defects from stylistic preferences, and explain the consequence of each important finding.
• Independently test claims or construct counterchecks with LaTeX, SymPy, Python and Jupyter as appropriate.
• Recognize sound arguments that can be made clearer or more efficient, and produce structured feedback suitable for iterative revision.

Preferred background

• PhD in physics and an active record of independent work in a relevant specialty.
• Experience as a postdoctoral researcher, research fellow, junior/assistant professor or senior research scientist.
• Representative work published within approximately the last 5 years, with arXiv or DOI references.
• Advanced working ability with LaTeX, SymPy, Python and Jupyter, plus experience reviewing research through peer review, supervision, committees or seminars.
• Clear scientific writing and reliable computer/internet access.
• Relevant research may span quantum information and material optics; AMO or quantum optics; gravitation and cosmology; condensed matter and statistical physics; or biophysics, high-energy and mathematical physics.

Deliverables

An evidence-based audit with issue severity, corrected reasoning or verification steps, and explicit remaining uncertainty.

Location and schedule

Remote, with a United States, Canada and United Kingdom focus; this is a regional focus rather than an absolute exclusion. No fixed weekly volume or assignment duration is specified. IXO will agree availability, deliverables and timing before work.
