The Global R&D team at Maizières Products centre develops new steel grades, coatings, and associated processes to support automotive and packaging markets globally.
Your Role
As a research engineer, you will steer R&D projects and coordinate teams with internal or external partners in the qualification of new steel products (including decarbonized steels), develop steel solutions, and design prototyping for packaging applications. You will work across forming, coatings, corrosion, and metallurgy, providing wide autonomy for technical actions.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate all activities of R&D support for new product development requiring formability assessment and in-use property validation.
- Lead the qualification phase (formability and usage properties assessment) of new product ranges for packaging, preparing technical files before go‑decision for shipment.
- Steer implementation of tailored experimental testing and characterization methodologies for packaging applications on time.
- Develop new steel solutions in close collaboration with customers and external partners.
- Provide technical support to customers for continuous performance improvement and cost‑effectiveness, co‑engineering initiatives, or long‑term collaborations.
- Implement sophisticated numerical tools to strengthen understanding of the relationship between mechanical properties, formability, and in‑use properties of steel containers.
- Implement innovative forming processes in breakthrough with existing ones to promote ArcelorMittal steel product ranges.
Qualifications
- PhD in a scientific field related to mechanical engineering or a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related fields.
- Significant experience in related fields or research training in industrial environments.
- Fluency in French and English.
- Ability to analyze complex processes, integrate external knowledge, and propose practical solutions.
- Capacity to work on multiple projects simultaneously with flexibility and adaptability.
- Skills in establishing relational networks for project management and teamwork.
- Rigor, dynamism, analytical and synthesis skills, expertise, and curiosity.
