Renewable Energy Expert
NTU International is preparing a proposal for the project “Technical Assistance for Support Measures – Cooperation Facility for Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Island Countries.”
The overall objectiv e of the assignment is to facilitate the implementation of EU-funded programmes in the Pacific partner countries, including Papua New Guinea , by providing technical assistance and technical support to the EU Delegation to the Pacific for the programming, implementation, monitoring, review and evaluation of EU development cooperation operations, as well as by supporting coordination and dialogue with partner-country institutions and other stakeholders.
The contract is expected to start on 1 February 2027 and will have an implementation period of 36 months . The primary location of the assignment is Papua New Guinea , with potential missions within the Pacific region.
In this context, NTU International is seeking a qualified Non-Key Expert – Renewable Energy to support technical assistance assignments related to renewable energy development, sustainable energy access, energy transition and climate-resilient energy systems.
Qualifications and Skills:
- University degree, preferably at postgraduate level , in a field relevant to the assignment, such as renewable energy, electrical engineering, energy engineering, power systems, environmental engineering, energy economics , or another related discipline.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proven ability to draft high-quality documents and reports and communicate ideas in a culturally sensitive context .
- Strong knowledge of the renewable energy sector , preferably contextualised to Papua New Guinea and the Pacific region .
- Ability to work independently and effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
- Depending on the assignment, willingness and ability to travel internationally and locally, including to remote areas .
General Professional Experience:
- Minimum 6 years of professional experience working in developing countries in renewable energy, sustainable energy, energy infrastructure and/or other relevant energy-sector fields.
Specific Professional Experience:
- Renewable energy project development and implementation.
- Solar, wind, hydropower, biomass and/or other renewable energy technologies.
- Off-grid, mini-grid and decentralised energy systems.
- Rural electrification and energy access.
- Electricity networks, renewable energy integration and energy storage.
- Renewable energy feasibility studies and investment planning.
- Energy policy, regulation and institutional strengthening.
- Climate change mitigation and climate-resilient energy infrastructure.
- Monitoring and evaluation of energy-sector programmes.
Assets
- Professional experience in Papua New Guinea and/or the Pacific region .
- Experience in other developing-country contexts.
- Knowledge and experience in at least one EU-funded project .
- Experience working with government institutions, energy authorities, utilities, private sector actors, development partners and local communities.
- Knowledge of the specific energy-access and renewable-energy challenges of Small Island Developing States and remote communities .
Language Requirements
- Excellent written and spoken English is required.
