The Regional Operational Risk and Control Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the internal controls processes are consistent across Marex, with a primary focus on the EMEA region. The role also ensures adherence to Group policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices across the region. The role holder works closely with the Operational Risk. The role places particular emphasis on effective risk assessment, governance, and continuous improvement of the control environment.
Responsibilities
Regional Operational Risk Management
- Regional risk oversight for all local operational risk matters and responsible for embedding good risk culture at Marex in collaboration with Group Operational Risk.
- Ensure processes, controls and risks are appropriately identified and assessment and follow up mitigation actions.
- Monitor changes in internal/external risk environment and maintain an up-to-date risk register aligned with Marex’s strategic objectives.
- Perform root cause analysis for operational risk events.
- Ensure compliance with any relevant procedures and Group policies.
- Conduct and collaborate with Group Operational Risk on the performance of the Risk Control Self-Assessment. Prepare any associated documentation, responding to audit findings, and supporting the implementation of corrective actions.
- Participate in the production of regulatory reporting on behalf of Risk.
- Ensure timely and accurate submissions in line with local regulatory expectations.
- Provide guidance and training to local teams on internal control procedures and compliance to local regulation on internal control including the development of the regional RCSAs
- Participate in the various projects that the team will be asked to lead or in which it is involved.
Risk and Internal Controls Assessment
- Maintain and develop the regional Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) in the GRC tool
- Ensure that the processes, the risks, and the controls are up to date, including periodic refresh cycles and updates following structural, regulatory, or operational changes.
- Propose framework enhancements to support regional requirement and lead on implementation
- Propose enhancement to localised processes and regional control environments
- Propose regional control plan in line with the main risks identified in the RCSA and the Group testing program
- Lead the evaluation of the effectiveness of internal controls across business units and support functions ensuring timely remediation and closure of gaps.
- Lead control testing activities in accordance with the Operational Risk Management Framework; identify and recommend remediation actions; and conduct post-remediation testing for material events and issues.
- Ensure all documentation and supporting evidence meet internal and external assurance standards
- Lead the communication around RCSA and control testing to local, regional, and global management
Response and Communication
- Prepare periodic reports and presentations on the status of internal controls for the regional Committees.
- Take part in communicating and presenting key risks to Senior Leadership and to support the local governance arrangements. These include but are not limited to Risk Appetite Metrics, RCSA, Key Risk Indicators and Risk Event evaluation.
- Contribute to Service Level Agreement reporting with KPI oversight and communication to the Outsourcing Committee. Ensure transparent reporting on outsourced process risks and controls.
- Maintaining open lines of communication with regional and global management to ensure alignment of control objectives and strategy.
Change Management
- Oversight of changes impacting the entity including ‘New Hire / Transfers’ between entities. Assess operational risk implications of organisational changes and coordinate appropriate control updates.
- Track changes which impact the Control Framework to ensure it remains fit for purpose.
Skills and Experience
- At least 5 years* of experience in risk, internal audit, compliance, assurance testing, or a related role.
- Hardworking, motivational, and influential.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work very collaboratively with diverse teams and adapt to different business environments.
- Strong interest in financial markets and operations.
- Eager to learn and progress in a fast-changing environment
- Experience in financial services regulation within EMEA is preferred.
