Regional Chief Engineer, Operations, DCEO

Overview

Regional Chief Engineer, Operations, DCEO – Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Regional Chief Engineer (CE) for Data Center Engineering Operations ensures electrical, mechanical and fire/life safety equipment operate at peak efficiency, maintains high availability, and provides leadership to Engineering Operation Technicians and vendors. The role drives safety, reliability, and cost optimization in AWS-owned data centers.

Responsibilities

• Set and maintain high safety standards and promote a world-class safety culture.
• Drive continuous infrastructure improvements through standardization and performance metrics.
• Collaborate with site leaders to streamline maintenance and risk assessment processes.
• Enable 100% uptime for customer-supporting infrastructure.
• Train and mentor technical operations staff in corrective and preventive maintenance; oversee site/equipment training.
• Coordinate with third-party providers to deliver operational excellence.
• Lead strategic projects on critical infrastructure to improve performance and resiliency while reducing costs.
• Manage build-outs and retrofits of facility infrastructure across regional locations, including construction and commissioning with contracted providers.
• Ensure the organization can respond to any customer-impacting event affecting electrical or mechanical systems.
• Elevate capabilities of site chief engineers and EOTs; establish training requirements and readiness/testing programs.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in a high-volume mission-critical operational environment (e.g., data centers) with 7x24x365 experience.
• 10+ years of leadership experience in engineering/technical operations for medium to large-scale facilities (electrical and mechanical). Ability to lead rapid-response teams and implement root-cause remediation.
• Proven experience in strategic project/portfolio management delivering medium to large-scale technical projects.
• Ability to deliver results in highly complex, cross-team environments; strong prioritization skills.
• Strong IT skills including MS Office; excellent written and spoken English.
• Experience working with geographically distributed teams to deliver solutions across geographies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelors in engineering or related field; relevant licenses (DC II/III, Stationary/Building Engineering, Journeyman, CFC, NFPA 70E).
• Strong leadership and organizational skills; alignment with Amazon leadership principles.
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity.
