Description of Work
The primary purpose of the Recreational Therapy Supervisor is to develop, plan, coordinate, and administer all services provided by the professional RT staff. This includes ensuring that clinical Recreational Therapy services are age appropriate and population specific. Direct supervision is provided for 15 Recreational Therapists. The RT coordinates the professional training of RT students in internships and/or practicum assignments. The RT coordinates with unit directors, other disciplines, treatment teams, community groups, and agencies concerning the development and implementation of RT services. Other duties may include serving on hospital‑wide committees and assisting with hospital‑wide and/or departmental performance improvement projects. The work schedule is Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with occasional evenings and weekends as scheduled.
Preferred Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of recreational therapy theory, principles, techniques, and documentation.
- Ability to develop and accurately administer a variety of assessment tools and to assess clients’ current functioning levels, develop and evaluate treatment plans, evaluate progress, and determine needed support and services.
- Knowledge of psychiatric and medical diagnosis and implications for RT services.
- Ability to plan, organize, and initiate programs and to supervise and train supportive personnel.
- Ability to manage intra‑departmental and inter‑departmental functioning.
Mandatory Travel/Work Requirements
This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
Minimum Education and Experience
Licensed to practice Recreational Therapy by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure and two years of experience as a Recreational Therapist.
