R&D Metallurgical Engineer – Additive Manufacturing

Position: 6‑month fixed‑term contract (renewable).

Responsibilities

• Develop and finalize innovative aluminium alloys specifically designed for additive manufacturing.
• Build and maintain customer and partner relationships within the additive‑manufacturing ecosystem to ensure product success.
• Initiate or partner in collaborative projects and pursue external funding opportunities (e.g., state‑funded or European projects).
• Provide technical support to customers or equipment providers using Constellium products.
• Collaborate with key academic partners to complement internal competencies.
• Promote Constellium products by participating in conferences and trade fairs.
• Monitor competitors and contribute to defining the product roadmap.
• Lead by example in the zero‑accident policy, ensuring compliance with all EHS rules, incident/near‑miss reporting, etc.
• Improve the life‑cycle of aluminium powders used in additive manufacturing processes (e.g., powder recycling).
• Expect regular international travel.

Qualifications

• Master’s level degree and/or PhD in Materials Science, focusing on metal‑related products or processes.
• Practical and theoretical knowledge of mechanical and/or physical metallurgy, preferably on aluminium‑based alloys.
• Knowledge of additive manufacturing and Al alloys used in this field.
• Strong digital‑technology skills (data analysis, AI, etc.) is a plus.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory; French desirable; German or other languages are a plus.
• At least 3 years of experience developing or using aluminium‑based powders for additive manufacturing, or developing aluminium alloy systems.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment, demonstrate perseverance, speed, proactivity, and explain complex concepts simply.
• Team‑player with a can‑do attitude and excellent communication skills.
