iXcampus is developing a cryogenic characterisation line currently comprising two dilution refrigerators, with significant expansion planned. As part of this growth, we are recruiting a Quantum Engineer on a permanent basis.

This pivotal role is structured around three complementary pillars: technical coordination of the Qubit Control 2030 collaborative R&D programme, operation of the cryogenic platform and measurement services, and commercial development of our cryogenic testing offer.

Pillar 1 — Technical Coordination — Qubit Control 2030 Project

  • Serve as the technical coordinator of the project: track milestones, deliverables and timelines; provide regular reports to iXcampus management and project partners.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for all project stakeholders (laboratories, industrial partners, public funders); organise and chair steering committee meetings.
  • Contribute to the drafting of technical project documents: experimental plans, specifications, meeting minutes, and progress reports.
  • Conduct technology watch on qubit control systems, cryogenic equipment and characterisation methods.
  • Support the identification and application for complementary funding (ANR, France 2030 calls, PEPR Quantique) by providing the required technical expertise.
  • Ensure the successful execution of the overall technical roadmap, and in particular the delivery of the two main demonstrators.

Pillar 2 — Cryogenic Platform Operations & Measurements

  • Perform measurements and characterisations in cryogenic environments (down to 10 mK) for clients and partners: superconducting circuit characterisation (resonators, qubits, Josephson junctions), RF and DC measurements.
  • Train and support clients and partners in cryostat handling and measurement protocol implementation.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all cryostat operations.
  • Ensure calibration and metrological traceability of measurement equipment (VNA, spectrum analyzers, lock‑in amplifiers, RF generators).
  • Contribute to the development of new measurement capabilities (new protocols, new equipment) to meet project and client needs.
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance of dilution refrigerators (cool‑down, warm‑up, vacuum management, helium handling) and associated equipment, in liaison with iXcampus technical teams.

Pillar 3 — Commercial Development of Measurement Services

  • Define and structure iXcampus’s cryogenic measurement service offering: service catalogue, pricing schedule, and terms of service.
  • Identify and prospect potential clients: quantum start‑ups and SMEs, defence‑sector players, medical imaging (quantum MRI), and metrology organisations requiring ultra‑low‑temperature testing.
  • Respond to technical enquiries: analyse client needs, define the appropriate measurement protocol, cost and draft commercial proposals.
  • Manage the client relationship throughout the service delivery: technical scoping, scheduling, measurement execution, results reporting and interpretation.
  • Contribute to iXcampus’s visibility in the quantum ecosystem: participate in industry events, publish technical content, represent the company at trade shows and conferences.
  • Anticipate infrastructure needs (additional cryostats, measurement equipment) to support the scale‑up of the platform.

Why join iXcampus?

  • Exceptional infrastructure: Access to a world‑class cryogenic line – dilution refrigerators operating at 10 mK, state‑of‑the‑art RF measurement equipment.
  • A structuring programme: Central role in Qubit Control 2030, a programme aligned with the French National Quantum Strategy. Direct visibility and impact on the French quantum industry.
  • A dynamic ecosystem: At the heart of the Maisons du Quantique network, 40 min from the Paris‑Saclay cluster – one of Europe’s leading deep‑tech hubs.
  • Fast‑track career development: High‑autonomy position with a clear pathway towards leading the cryogenic platform as it scales.
  • A unique dual mandate: A rare combination of R&D and commercial development – ideal for a profile seeking to step beyond the pure lab environment without leaving quantum.
  • Attractive package: €65,000 – €75,000 gross/year based on profile · 100% employer‑funded health insurance · Campus benefits (restaurant, sports centre) · Outstanding working environment.

Qualifications

Education

  • Engineering degree or Master’s (MSc) in experimental physics, electrical engineering, photonics, quantum physics, or a related field.
  • A PhD in experimental physics of superconducting systems, mesoscopic physics, or cryogenics is a significant asset.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • 3 – 5 years of experience in an experimental research or industrial environment involving cryogenic measurements (post‑doc, research engineer or R&D engineer).
  • Solid knowledge of superconducting circuit physics, spin systems, or carbon nanotubes.
  • Autonomous hands‑on proficiency with 4 K or dilution refrigerators (Bluefors, Oxford Instruments, Leiden Cryogenics, or equivalent): cool‑down procedures, maintenance, RF/DC cryogenic wiring.
  • Proven experience in metrology and SOP writing.
  • Experience in low‑temperature RF characterisation: VNA, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, lock‑in amplifiers.
  • Training or experience in photonics would be an advantage.
  • Experience in R&D project coordination or multi‑partner technical interface management (desirable).
  • Initial experience in commercial development or business development in a deep‑tech context (strongly desirable).
  • Excellent command of technical and professional English.

Personal Qualities

  • Rigour and process discipline: non‑negotiable in a cryogenic environment where reproducibility and safety are critical.
  • Autonomy and initiative: ability to take ownership of a complex technical environment without constant supervision.
  • Service mindset and client orientation: essential relational and commercial qualities for developing the measurement services activity.
  • Communication and teaching ability: capacity to train users and present technical results to diverse audiences (researchers, executives, clients).
  • Entrepreneurial drive: appetite for building a new activity within a dynamic start‑up environment.
