The role – what is it we would like you to do?
The cost consultant / quantity surveyor manages all costs relating to data center, logistics, high‑tech sector projects. Its primary role is to estimate and monitor costs from the initial planning stage through to completion of a project, including preparation of budgets, cost plans, BOQs, tender evaluation, and valuation of contractor payments, ensuring projects are completed within budget.
This role requires experience in cost consulting in electro‑mechanical (MEP) pricing for buildings, data centers, logistics, and other high‑tech sector projects.
This is a full‑time position located in Paris, France.
As a Cost Consultant - Quantity Surveyor your core duties will involve:
- Market analysis including inflation, risks, and other factors.
- Budget preparation and CAPEX review during the feasibility stage.
- Cost estimation during the design phase, including analysis of labour and material costs.
- Preparing bills of quantities for contractors to price during the tender process.
- Negotiating and managing contracts between clients and contractors.
- Advising on contractual and procurement strategy.
- Leading the tender stage, including managing the tender process, analyzing tenders, and recommending the most suitable contractor for the projects.
- Monitoring costs during the construction stage to ensure the project remains within budget.
- Approving contractors’ payment applications.
- Advising on tax depreciation schedules and life‑cycle costing of buildings.
- Resolving disputes between contractors and clients regarding costs.
- Providing accurate cost advice and reporting to clients.
- Maintaining effective communication to ensure all information is available for the successful completion of projects.
- Liaising with other managers to ensure efficient financial control.
- Delivering all work outputs in an accurate and timely manner.
- Providing support to the project lead, project manager, or senior cost manager.
- Representing the company in a professional and diligent manner; meeting, negotiating, and corresponding with clients to form strong working relationships.
What skills and attributes are we looking for from you
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Both French and English at an advanced level.
- A minimum of three to five years’ technical delivery experience as an economist, QS, or cost consultant, with experience in pricing electro‑mechanical works.
- Experience in MEP pricing, supplier contacts, and administrative understanding for the permitting process in buildings, data centers, or similar high‑tech sectors.
- Pre‑ and post‑contract experience.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, cost databases, and specialist quantity surveying software.
- Knowledge of building and construction methods, legal issues, and H&S standards.
- Good client‑facing and communication skills.
- Well‑organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well‑disciplined, and commercially astute.
- A team player with a ‘can‑do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful, and flexible.
