Python Developer - Credit Solutions & Hybrids Desk (Front Office)

About the Programme

One of our clients is a leading European corporate and investment bank with a substantial global markets franchise. Phi Partners is supporting an IT “commando” team working directly for the Credit Solutions & Hybrids trading desk, in close proximity to the front office.

The mission calls for a functional and technical expert to manage and optimise the technology used by the traders — resolving technical issues quickly, automating trading processes and integrating new technology to improve the efficiency of operations, while safeguarding security and stability. As the sole IT consultant embedded on the desk, the successful candidate will work autonomously while collaborating closely with a team of around twenty developers, delivering fast solutions that respect the good practices already in place and fit within the existing ecosystem.

Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for a developer with strong front-office engineering capability who will be responsible for:

• Supporting the Credit Solutions & Hybrids desk in developing and automating its tooling;
• Automating Excel/VBA pricers, migrating them server-side and re-coding them in Python;
• Assisting traders on the existing application stack and supporting the features already available to them;
• Ensuring solutions integrate cleanly into the existing ecosystem, avoiding duplication and synchronising with the other developers;
• Translating business requirements into the technical component of user stories, and defining and implementing solutions in line with specifications;
• Applying and enforcing security, architecture and development standards; documenting solutions; preparing, automating and running tests (including integration tests); and providing support and maintenance.

Key Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

• 5–8+ years of experience in an Investment Bank, within a Front Office environment
• Excellent Python and Git skills
• Good command of Excel / VBA
• Good knowledge of Credit products (CLN, CDS) and Bonds
• The communication skills to work directly with front-office users, both written and spoken
• Fluent English and strong resilience under pressure
• Desirable: prior experience as the sole embedded IT consultant on a trading desk
