Public Works Laborers - Sewer Division
The Cherry Hill Department of Public Works is looking for qualified candidates to fill two (2) Laborer 1 positions in the Sewer division.Position Summary
Under supervision, performs varied types of manual and unskilled labor work, such as digging, painting, errands, mixing of cement, stream cleaning, grass cutting, etc.
Required to drive a Township truck with appurtenant equipment (i.e. generators, trailers, snowplow, and salt spreader).
Performs other duties as requested by Supervisor/Department Head.
Essential Functions
- Cleans and maintains buildings and grounds or facilities.
- Must be able to transport small equipment to the job site.
- Ensures that proper safety procedures are followed and that reasonable standards of workmanship and output are maintained.
- Responds to and may work along with other Public Works employees during leaf collection and in the clearing and removal of snow and/or other emergent conditions or situations.
- Will be subject to 24-hour on-call; may be required to work extra hours as required during emergencies, i.e., snowstorms, leaf collection, flooding, etc.
- Drives and/or operates trucks, lawn mowers, pumps and other maintenance equipment as needed.
- Assists with other maintenance and laboring duties when there is no need for truck and/or equipment operation.
- Required to grease, lubricate and adjust lawnmowers, tractors, spreaders, chainsaws, etc.

Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to communicate in the English language both verbally and in writing.
Experience
- Knowledge of the skilled and safe operation of trucks, construction and maintenance equipment.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of construction operations and procedures and the proper use of mechanized equipment, including cleaning, servicing and making minor adjustments to the equipment.
- Ability to gain working knowledge and to attend seminars/courses, etc. to be trained in technological advances.
- Ability to understand, remember and expedite oral and written directions.
- Ability to check, clean and service trucks and mechanized equipment.
- Ability to keep simple records.
- Ability to load, unload, lift and deliver equipment and materials.
- Ability to work harmoniously with associates, other divisions, departments and the general public.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
Other Requirements
- Valid NJ Driver's license
- New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70).
- Successful pre-employment background check.
This is a Union position under Teamsters Local 676 – Blue Collar.
Salary: $24.04/hour per Union Contract
