Project Manager Solar Independent Engineering
Overview
We are looking for a Project Manager for Solar Independent Engineering who will work on solar and solar+storage projects across North America. The role covers the entire project life‑cycle, from project due diligence and financial assessments to construction monitoring and final close, in collaboration with leading developers, financiers, and our internal technical specialists.
Location(s)
The position may be based out of DNV offices in Oakland (CA), San Diego (CA), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), New York City (NY), Medford (MA), Dallas (TX) or other U.S. locations. The schedule is hybrid, typically three days per week at a DNV office or on‑site at the client.
What You'll Do
- Initiate and coordinate the technical review process, working with internal specialists in civil, electrical engineering, energy assessment, technology, and permitting teams, and synthesize and write due diligence reports.
- Perform overall project management activities and serve as the primary customer contact for the execution of due diligence engagements.
- Conduct portions of due diligence reviews, including contract and financial model reviews, and synthesis of inputs from technical disciplines.
- Discuss and resolve technical issues with project developers, lenders, and investors, coordinating input from internal technical specialists.
- Develop and win proposals for scopes of services related to due diligence work.
- Coordinate or perform DNV construction monitoring and site visit activities.
- Support customers through the financial closings of projects.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts, including leading tool development, process refinement, digitization initiatives, and lessons learned activities.

- For California, Washington, New York, D.C., Illinois, and Maryland, the starting pay range is $85,000 – $140,000.
About You
We seek candidates who meet the following requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, energy, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the solar industry.
- Strong project and time‑management skills, enabling balance of multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Fluency in MS Office.
- Solution‑oriented thinking and high integrity.
- Understanding of energy industry technology (modules, inverters, mounting systems/trackers, balance of system, etc.).
- Supportive, resilient, flexible, and proactive team player, eager to work in a collaborative environment.
- Proven HSE mindset and demonstrated behavior‑based safety mentality.
- Digitally curious mindset with knowledge of AI, automation, and digital tools, plus experience in continuous improvement.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Pre‑employment background and drug screenings will be conducted.
Additional Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Concentration in at least one of the following: solar industry construction or operating contracts, solar project construction, operations/asset management, solar project design/development, module/inverter technology, energy assessment, power marketing/offtake contracting, energy storage technology and implementation, market research/policy, or independent engineering.
- Exposure to contracts (construction, supply, operations, interconnection, offtake, subscription, and/or asset management).
- Familiarity with budgets and financial models.
- Working knowledge of PVsyst and solar energy assessment.
- Experience with solar project financing processes.
- Project management designation.
- Familiarity with energy storage systems.
