Project Engineer - Operations and Data
Thermosphr is a ClimateTech startup optimising energy management for commercial buildings across Europe. Our software combines thermal modelling, model predictive control, AI, and real-time energy management - delivering over 30% energy savings for offices, shopping centres, and universities. Over 1 million square metres operated across Europe, with more than 3,000 tonnes of CO2 avoided to date.
We are an international team based in Paris and Berlin, in a phase of rapid growth. We value ownership, continuous learning, and close collaboration. This role offers direct, measurable impact on how we operate and scale.
The role
As our portfolio of live buildings grows, so does the need to manage performance at scale. This role sits at the intersection of operations and data: owning a scope of buildings in run, identifying and resolving performance issues, and building the analytical tools that enable the wider team to operate more effectively.
The position will evolve as the company scales - more buildings, broader scope, and increasingly systematic tooling. You will work closely with the Operations and Product teams.
Responsibilities
Building equipment performance
- Own a scope of live buildings end to end - you are the person responsible for their performance
- Detect issues before they become problems: control logic errors, configuration gaps, missing data, equipment failures
- Dig into the root cause, not just the symptom - and drive the fix yourself wherever possible
- Know when to escalation and when to just solve it. Default to solving it
- Keep a clear, up-to-date view of your portfolio and flag risks before they land on someone else's desk
Data & tooling
- Build dashboards, reports, and monitoring tools that give the team visibility across the full portfolio
- Write SQL queries to investigate control performance, detect data gaps, and automate recurring reports
- Build lightweight Python scripts or notebooks for data exploration and tooling
- Navigate time‑series datasets from building sensors and translate them into actionable insight
- Leverage AI to accelerate prototyping and tool development
- Replace manual processes and legacy files with scalable, usable solutions
- Support other project managers in interpreting their data and acting on it independently
Technical stack
Profile
Experience & skills
- Rigorous analytical skills with the ability to structure problems, identify patterns, and communicate findings clearly
- Comfortable working across data tools and environments - you adapt to the stack rather than requiring a specific one
- Practical, consistent use of AI tools to improve efficiency and output quality
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously with a high level of organization
- Genuine interest in buildings, energy systems, technical infrastructure, or any complex engineered environment
- Fluent in English and French
Mindset
- Technically curious - you seek to understand how systems work, not just what the data shows
- Solution-oriented - when something is not working, you focus on resolution, not escalation
- Autonomous and rigorous, while maintaining close alignment with the team
What we offer
- Ownership of the data and performance layer across our entire building portfolio
- Direct contribution to operational scalability and measurable energy savings
- A team environment that values expertise, initiative, and continuous improvement
