Product Regulatory Legal Counsel (EU)

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to support Mistral AI’s compliance and regulatory efforts by being the product, engineering, and public affairs teams' closest partner and advisor.Play a pivotal role in shaping AI compliance, tackling cutting‑edge regulations, influencing the future of AI, and collaborating directly with our engineering, science, public affairs, and product teams at the heart of a rapidly evolving industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in close partnership with engineering, science, and product teams to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in the development and deployment of AI technologies.
• Collaborate with the public affairs teams on regulatory efforts.
• Stay updated on the latest AI‑related legal and regulatory developments, and provide practical guidance to the organization on potential risks, solutions, and opportunities.
• Provide training and support to the business on legal and compliance matters related to AI.
• Help draft terms and other contractual materials, or negotiate contracts with upstream partners or suppliers, including but not limited to AI‑related service agreements.
• Support the team on other legal topics as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

• Master’s degree in law; bar admission is a plus, and experience in a fast‑growing environment.
• 5 years of experience in a law firm or tech company, in IT law.
• Understanding of artificial intelligence technologies and their applications is essential.
• Solution‑oriented approach: identify compliance issues and develop effective strategies to address and resolve them, implementing practical solutions.
• Project management: strong project management skills.
• Analytical skills: ability to analyze complex legal and technical issues related to AI, identify potential legal risks and solutions; detail‑oriented and strong problem‑solving skills.
• Communication skills: excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present complex legal concepts in a clear and understandable manner; business oriented.
• International mindset: international experience is a plus.
• Adaptability: willingness to continuously learn and update skills and knowledge in a rapidly evolving AI and legal landscape; ability to work independently and in a team‑oriented, collaborative environment; proactive, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
