Position Overview
As the Product Engineer / Industrialisation you will scale products from concept to full production while maintaining uncompromising quality, brand standards and creative direction. You have strong technical expertise—specifically, proven experience with apparel product standards and testing. Ensure a seamless transition from product development into bulk manufacturing. The position works seamlessly with Product Development, Material development, PIC and Sourcing and is the gate keeper to make sure products are delivered by vendors as per the given brief.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Readiness: Ensure products are fully manufacturable at scale without compromising design intent or aesthetic vision. Collaborate with Design, Development and Sourcing to validate construction feasibility and align on final specifications. Ensure a smooth transition from development into production, resolving technical issues before bulk start.
- Material & Component Engineering: Work closely on material selection and component specification and ensure chosen fabrics and trims meet performance and design by analyzing the end product through standardised methods and specifications. Ability to make decisions and confidently guide internal teams and external partners through the engineering and testing process to ensure products meet all requirements.
- Cost Engineering: Optimise construction, material choices and component usage to achieve margin and cost targets. Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and material optimisation while preserving craftsmanship and quality standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with PD to review design intent and ensure it is technically feasible. Monitor BOM changes through the development cycle to support accurate costing, inventory planning and production scheduling.
- Process Standardisation: Develop and document standardised, repeatable production processes to ensure consistency across suppliers. Create technical standards, construction guidelines and manufacturing documentation that support scale and quality.
- Factory Onboarding & Capability Building: Train and support factories on new styles, techniques and product categories. Partner with Quality teams to develop QA standards, especially for new or technically complex categories. Evaluate and enhance factory capabilities to ensure alignment with brand execution standards.
- Risk assessment and reporting: Manage risks across all allocated products. Management of wash care, aftercare, proclaimer application, labelling and safety is essential.
- Regulatory Compliance: Partner with Product Integrity & Compliance (PIC) to ensure all products meet global legal, safety and labeling requirements. Stay informed on regulatory updates and integrate compliance requirements proactively into product documentation and workflows.
Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Apparel Design & Technology, Fashion Engineering or a related field. A solid academic foundation in garment construction, textile science and product development principles is expected.
- 3–5 years of experience in apparel product development, engineering or technical design, preferably with a focus on outerwear.
- Deep understanding of garment construction techniques, manufacturing processes and Labor Minutes Calculation.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes: Experience within patterns, grading and fits; knowledge of product testing, test methods and approval processes (labelling, wash care); knowledge of construction and manufacturing methods. In depth understanding of technical materials, woven and knit.
- Knowledge of product safety and risk assessment across multiple product categories.
- PLM experience, MS Office skills. Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, industrialisation methods and large-scale production operations.
- Skilled in costing, margin engineering and supply chain logistics.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to influence internal teams and external suppliers.
