Process Design Engineer – Global High Tech (GHT)
We are looking for an experienced Process Design Engineer to join our Global High Tech (GHT) team. This role focuses on process design, technical solution development, proposal engineering, and engineering support for industrial water and wastewater treatment projects serving high‑tech industries. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing innovative water treatment solutions, preparing process designs and technical proposals, and supporting project execution activities throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the project development team to provide project engineering support by developing process flow sheets, preparing proposals and estimates, and providing technical/commercial support at client meetings.
- Provide process engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle, supporting the development of innovative water and wastewater treatment solutions for high‑tech industries.
- Support the O&M team for troubleshooting and continuous improvement implementation in existing GHT contracts.
- Build long‑term relationships with internal and external customers by understanding their key business drivers; high emotional intelligence is required.
Recommended Profile
- Education: Chemical, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering degree.
- Minimum 5–10 years experience designing and supporting the sale of water and/or wastewater equipment and systems (clarification, filtration, membrane separation, RO/UF, DAF, solids separation, metals removal, biological treatment) to industrial clients.
- Experience supporting project execution, commissioning, start‑up or delivery of industrial process projects is preferred.
- Familiarity with water treatment plant commissioning and start‑up.
- Fluency in English and French or Spanish (written and verbal).
- People‑relating attitude and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Strong commercial mindset and financial acumen.
- Pragmatic approach to synthesis and problem solving.
- Ability to manage conflict and work under pressure.
- Willingness to travel 50% of the time to support discovery and cost‑basis development for each project.
- High computer literacy (Microsoft Office, ability to learn business systems); Autocad preferred.
Principal Accountabilities
- Report functionally to the GHT Engineering Manager within the Commercial Engineering organization.
- Based in France (or UK/Spain) and maintain regular contact with the direct supervisor.
- Demonstrate competence in a wide range of water treatment process technologies and proven knowledge of designing water treatment systems (mass balance, flow sheet, water mapping, equipment selection, costing, documentation for commercial discussion).
- Be familiar with engineering drawings (P&ID, General Arrangement, Isometric sketches, data sheets, troubleshooting lists, electrical and automation drawings).
- Analyze water and wastewater systems from mechanical, operational and chemical perspectives to propose solutions that meet customer needs and regulatory requirements.
- Proactively work with clients and Ecolab/Nalco colleagues to determine project needs, evaluate business models specific to wastewater and pretreatment operations, and develop project specifications.
- Supervise or take over site survey, conception and basic design, ensuring the best technical and economical compromise between OPEX and CAPEX.
- Utilize technical expertise and financial acumen to support project qualification and prioritize projects with the highest probability of success.
- Ensure budgets are adhered to on a project basis and discuss any issues with peers or managers during project execution to improve construction methods.
- Communicate with personnel at all levels within Nalco company and externally (customers, contractors).
- Have experience (even limited) with plant operation & maintenance.
- Maintain customer relationships and coordinate technical/business issues and renewals within sold O&M accounts.
- Assist on existing OM contracts for troubleshooting, diagnostics and improvement identification.
- Be aware of international standards and norms required for equipment construction and certification.
- Be aware of safety and environmental legislation aspects.
