Privacy and Commercial Counsel

Location: Paris-based, 3 days/week in the office. Relocation within Europe.

Responsibilities

  • Run GDPR compliance operations, taking full ownership of data subject requests, maintaining core privacy documentation, and producing required artifacts such as DPIAs.
  • Embed privacy and security compliance into product development, working closely with ML and technical teams to ensure compliant by design.
  • Monitor evolving privacy laws, assess their impact on the business, and proactively brief relevant teams.
  • Evolve into the Data Protection Officer role as the privacy program matures.
  • Own commercial contracting: review, draft, and negotiate sales agreements and handle daily contract requests from business teams.
  • Support the Head of Legal with trademark registrations, corporate, labour, public affairs, and other legal needs as the company grows.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of legal experience in data protection/privacy, from a tech‑focused law firm or in‑house counsel at a SaaS start‑up or scale‑up.
  • Proven ability to draft compliance documents (DPAs, DPIAs, LIAs).
  • Comfortable with managing a steady volume of commercial and sales contracts, reviewing, drafting, and negotiating independently.
  • Master’s degree in law; bar admission is a plus but not required.
  • Fluent in French and English, with aptitude for drafting and negotiating in both languages.
  • Business‑oriented mindset: able to translate legal questions into commercial solutions and collaborate effectively with technical teams.
  • Self‑directed, async‑friendly, capable of managing multiple workstreams and keeping stakeholders informed proactively.
  • Familiarity with AI technologies and their legal implications, including the EU AI Act, is an advantage.
